Default EJ1 Guage Cluster Help

Hi. Recently I decided to remove the ricey indiglo guages that the original of my car had previously installed. Once I took the cluster out, I realized he also removed the lights in the back of the cluster for the tach/speedo/fuel/temp guages. I finally tracked down the sockets I needed but it turns out the bulbs in them were no good. I put new bulbs in them, went to turn the lights on, and still no dice. I also checked the dimmer switch to rule that out. Im getting 12V in and 12V out. So Im assuming the dimmer switch is good, and I should mention that all the other lights in the cluster (CEL, Battery, SRS) work fine, so Im assuming its not a problem with the cluster itself. Do you guys have any input?

Just try putting new lights in. You can get some at auto zone. I forget the size, i think its #74 but they should be able to tell you the size or put in LED's. Which you can buy from http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html

I did put new lights in. Brand new, out of the box, from auto zone. Still nothing.

Climate control lights have never worked. But all fuses are good, however which one should I be checking specifically? As far as I know, there isnt a specific fuse for the climate control/cluster lights.

As I suspected, that fuse is good. And as I said, the other dash/cluster lights are working fine. For some reason its only the cluster lighting

Do you know anyone with a eg? so you can swap clusters for a min or 2 to see if its actually the car or the actual cluster itself?

Thanks for the offer man, unfortunately I just flew home for Thanksgiving yesterday. When I get back Id definitely be up for it though...at least that would rule out whether its the cluster or the dimmer switch. Ill let you know when Im back in West Lafayette

how was the indiglo gauges wired up?

he could've cut the wire that provides the 12v signal for the lights.

if your climate lights never worked before, it could be the same problem - somewhere the wire that provides 12v to the dash lights was cut.

does your head unit dim when you turn your lights on? if it doesn't it could be the same problem, or you just didn't hook up that wire...

gl finding that cut wire.

The indiglo guages were wired off their own power source with a seperate dimmer switch, none of the factory wiring was touched. I still speak to the original owner, he didnt cut any wires. And the climate lights dont work either because the bulbs burnt out or he removed them, I know he didnt cut the power wire. I dont have a head unit anymore, but I never had a problem with it while it was in there.
