Interested in following the build of my 1986 CRX Si?
I bought a new shell and I am in the process of starting the rebuild of my 1986 CRX Si Honda Challenge car. Not very many people like these old beaters... but if anyone is interested in following the build, let me know... The first gen cars are still pretty quick on the track despite their wacky suspension, and they are a ton of fun to drive!
of course we will follow your build. you don't see many first gens being built. i had a 87 crx si and it was a damn fun car to drive stock. show it
For sure i had one of 84 1st gen...and people always told me i could never do anything to or with that...i started to save the money to fix it all up...and then it got jacked...good luck with it... parts are hard to find...ill follow this till the end...
i already owned an 87 si last year and it had a long racing history in SCCA, so i bought a new shell and im making two cars into one, and im going to be racing in honda challenge.... not SCCA
I bought an 87 CRX Si a few months back. I'm in the process of replacing the head gasket and re-doing the interior. I love these 1st gens and I would definitely be interested in seeing what direction you decide to go with yours.

I'm old school so I dig them. I really want to put a b16 or a gsr in one. Yeah the rear solid beam axle is kinda old, but they still handle pretty damn good, but you already know that.
I would love to see the build, if I could find one I would definately buy a 1st gen and build it up just for kicks..I would be the one crazy enough to try for a d or b series engine.
all right then. more progress today.
1- all fenders, bumpers, doors, hood, side skirts and windows removed.
2- interior removed.
3-doors plasma-trimmed for door bars on the cage
4- dash and AC/heater removed.
more pictures probably thursday or friday....
once the engine is pulled, i will be sending the shell to be completly stripped of paint and seamsealer via dipping or sandblasting...
then im building the cage, and then painting it... possibly championship white... not sure on color yet...
