should i upgrade to a 600 rr from a 600 f4i?
wassup guys, I currently own a 06 cbr f4i, i got it brand new and it is paid off. the f4i for me was a wonderful starting bike, however i am thinking about upgrading to the 600 rr. i can probably sell my f4i for about 7000-7500, and find a used 600 rr for about 5-6k. do you think it is worth upgrading? i do not plan on taking the bike to the tracks at the moment, but maybe in the near future. i also like how the rr looks. what do you guys think? thanks in advance.

Do they actually sell for that listed price? Somehow, I doubt it. F4i's do not sell very well at all in CA. Possibly 1% of the population is interested in buying them. But, if you can get a great price for your bike, then jump on it - especially if you like the 600RR's looks more than the F4i's.
Just as a side note, the F4i is more than capable of trackdays.

My take on the F4i's lack of popularity:
1. New riders and squid riders are not attracted to the bike.
2. The people that this bike appeals to already have an F4i because they can be had for very little money, especially since it has not changed much during its life.
Aesthetics depend on each individual.

personally would you be staisfied with a f4i? i was thinking about getting the rr but it seemed too much for a first bike. i bought the f4i new because i was planning on keeping it for awhile, but after having some riding experience the rr seems more appealing.

Keep the F4i. Ride it more often. Do some trackdays with it.
At 10/10ths pace, the RR will outperform the F4i. Anything less than that, the F4i is just as good. The F4i is also more comfortable.

I purchased my 2003 F4i as a starter bike and intend on upgrading to a RR in the future. The F4i is a plenty capable bike but it definately feels much heavier compared to my friends bikes (R6 and Gixxer).
IIRC correctly, the new CBR is about 40lbs lighter than my current bike.
Should make for a more performance oriented bike which is what I want to upgrade to. Just my 0.02 cents.

the riding posture is more aggressive. i also like the undertail exhaust, and unlike the f4i doesnt have the one piece seat. the color (black) in my opinion is awesome.

that's true, the f4i is more comfortable. but i only commute to work and maybe some weekend riding. but i do not ride for more than 2hours at a time, so im thinking the rr's aggressive riding posture shouldn't pose a major issue.

The seat is also less comfortable on the RR.
It sounds like you want to hear more positive reasons to go for the RR than keep the F4i, and not really what we have been suggesting so far. If that's the case, go for the RR.

hehe sorry about that. i am just debating on which. it is like 50/50 right now. i am just trying to get some outside feedback. thanks for your inputs though, im at the stage of wieghing each option.
look into a targo solo seat cowl for your bike. I can almost guarantee you that youd want to keep the f4i because itll look 10 times better with that on.
If you think about it this way, you only really want the RR cuz it looks better.
You have to weigh the pros and cons though, do you street ride normally? If so youre not going to want the RR. The f4i is one of the most comfortable street riding sport bikes. Especially 2004-2006.
I thought about switching but the 600rr doesnt really outperform the f4i that much.
And finally, food for thought. The 2002 honda f4i is the fastest production 600 honda had ever made (including the 03-06 600RRs).
Currently, the fastest lap time held at willow springs raceway is actually held by an 02 F4i at around 1 minute 19 seconds.

so if you had the 04-06 f4i you wouldnt mind keeping it? would the single seat bother you? i heard after the new rr came out, the 04-06 f4i is catergorized as a sports cruiser.

Thanks for the targo selection
I was looking at corbin seats, but to make it kinda like a one piece there is a storage box thing the goes right in front of the grab bars. but you are right, the primary reasons for the rr is cuz of the looks. i would not take it to the tracks until i get about another year of riding experience.

Only by a smidge, for the average rider. And if you're only looking at spending 4-5K for an RR, that won't get you one of the newer ones - you'd be looking at an 03 or 04 at the very latest.
Also, when the RR first came out, the F4i actually posted quicker 1/4 mile times...so keep that in consideration. The RR is faster around a track for sure, but not necessarily in a straight line.
The F4i is probably the best streetbike out there, with the possible exception of the VFR. So don't underestimate what you've got - only get rid of it if you can make some decent money on the deal, ie. $1K or more.

thanx for all your inputs guys. i dunno if it is just impluse that i want the rr. but after putting your posts into consideration, ill wait and see (after i get the targa cowl) how it goes. p.s. the rr looks sick though!
The reason I purchased a used bike is because I planned on selling it off in a year to put towards a new bike. However, if I had a brand new, paid off, 2006 F4i, I'd probaby just keep it for a while. Upgrade after a few years.
