Scuff, re-clear on original factory paint?
This is for the very knowledgeable/ skilled paint guys I always see around here. Forgive me if I'm totally oblivious in paint theory.
My project car is 16 years old. For the most part the paint looks good. It has a couple very minor dings and the passenger side fender needs replacing. I've got an area on the deck lid and roof where the factory clear is peeling. I'm currently doing an engine build but I need a temporary quick fix on my cars exterior to appease my slight case of OCD.
My question is this: Can I scuff the entire car (paying close attention to where the clear is peeling; feathering any hard lines) and re-clear it? I know that if I bought a brand new replacement fender, I'd have to lay some etching primer on it, spray it black, then clear it with the rest of the car. I also realize that unless I had some PDR work done, the dings would have to remain in place for now. As I stated earlier this would be TEMPORARY as I'll be doing a complete paint job within the next 6 months.
Thanks in advance.

if it is like most hondas where it is peeling, if there is a little gray bleeding through and if it is discolored in any way you will have to repaint it, but if youre scuffing the whole car to reclear it you would be stupid not to paint the whole thing and fix the dings yourself it not that much more work hope this helps you

yeah.. just shoot a little bit of color where the clear was fading.. so it will still have a nice look and not mis matched

Well I wasnt planning on taking it to a shop or anything. I've been researching some autobody supply shops online and saw some nifty clears in a can. Sorry, I shouldve explained that. This will be my makeshift paint job until I finish my motor and send it for a complete color change. Thanks for your response and congrats on your new shop!
