91 dx with ls fuel issue
hello fellas.. good to be back in the ef forum..lol.. i bought an eg and am having the gsr sleeved now as we speak for boost..(laskey racing)
anyway.. i have the chance to buy a decent work car for a few hundred bucks .. its a 91 dx with b18a1.. nno rust but doesnt run.. the owner says hes swapped fuel pumps and it still wont run.. he has ran a power wire directly from the battery (i believe) and said it still wont run..no check engine codes..
if it was you where would u look next.. im going to go get a new fuel pump and fuel filter.. pull the injectors and see if their gummed up.. i have a feeling it will do no good.. any ideas would be highly appreciated.. i will go look at the car tomorrow AGAIN and let you know a little more i just wanted to see any opinions on where else to look..
thanks
brian
yea man it has been running for some time with no issues.. no u cant hear the pump.. thats why i said i was gonna throw in a new f/p even tho theres a new one it in it now its still not working.
ok.. i found out what the deal is and i have a question..
1) theres no power to the fuel pump at all
2) put in a new ignition switch and still nothing
3) hot wired the f/p and it still wont run
where should i look next?

Check the main relay. If it's dead replace it. But if you hard wired the fuel pump and it still doesn't pump, then the pump is at fault. I suggest you DON'T hard wire that bitch in unless you wanna hack up the car.

Try and switch out the main relay as a quick diag., but If you hot wired the pump correctly and nada then I would start looking @ the fuel pumps ground circuit. If there was ever a water leak into the hatch area or spare tire area (which does happen alot) the water can slosh to the front and ruin the fuel pumps circuit. Check the thermostat's ground for tightness, and get a fuel pressure gauge on it. Does it have an aftermarket alarm and/or "bump in the trunk" sometimes people wire up there radios/alarms/radars like **** bums into the under dash fuse panel and cause problems. Let us know what you find.
if its not the mainrelay which it could be, I gurantee its the distributor coil, if u read the haynes book it actully controls the whole fuel system, I had the same problem, no power to anything, changed relay 3 times, then changed my coil bang started right up
