Default Bent Valve cause Misfiring?

I just went to get my crx smogged with stock D15 engine and it didnt pass. The guy told me that HCM is high because due to bent valve and that it is misfiring in some rpm. The guy told me that it could have been a bent valve, etc. Then it dawn on me. I overheated my engine a while back and i changed the headgasket and i only got the head resurface but i didnt get a valve job because i thought it wasnt worth paying $250 more for a D15 engine. So what would you guys suggest?

If it is a bent valve, do a swap. Who cares about a d15? They are a dime a dozen and really slow. If your low on cash, buy a used head rather than fixing that one. Itll prolly be cheaper than $250. A d16 would be a better than your engine and it bolts right in. You might as well get a lower mileage engine and more HP if your going to spend the cash.

Afterthought Edit: And a newer, lower mileage engine will be better for passing smog in CALI

Do a compression check first. If it is only misfiring in a certain rpm then it's not a bent valve.

Do you have an EGR valve on this motor? If so I would check that out second.

Find out what is wrong first. If it is an EGR valve or port, It would do it on the new motor too.
