Small hole in tranny, why?
Theres a small hole in the bottom of the tranny near the shift cable, It's the size of 1/16 and it drips fluid, Why is it there, Previous owner said he changed 2 trannys because of tthis, He often raced the car. I want to know if i can weld this hole sshut, or is something wrong with it that will lead to cracking and suhch. thanks.
on a side note, the car feels like it hops whenever i do a turn (left or right),at first we thought (my friend and i) that the mounts were loose, and the passenger side wasnt even bolted on!, after that it still feels odd, i checked my axles, and the passenger side wiggles and slides back and forth, However it doesnt click when turning, The boot is torn, is it bad?

if you can weld it should be cool....any leak on a tranny is bad..also if your cv boot is torn its bad...is the joint dry????i would try and fix both as soon as you can...
the whole axle is covered in grease from tranny, and some red grease is oozing out of the cv boot, I just wanted to know if it was okay to weld up that hole, id ont know if its aluminum or such.
grease = busted cv boot
Fluid = tranny (yes, its thin, like motor oil....and not red). Take a picture of this hole. If it was a 1/16" it wouldn't be dripping, it would be pouring and then you'd have no fluid left in the tranny.

Well when I broke my trans it did hop and felt like it was stuck for a second. My friend just picked up an EM1 where the trans did the same thing mine had done. He ended up replacing the trans before it went out completely. I waited til I blew a nice hole in the casing.
I don't think welding will do you any good at this point.
Your trans is shot, if its jumping already, its too late. Start looking for a new trans.
Sorry for the bad news.

Thank ou so much, i just wanted someone who had experienced this to reply.
It shifts smoothly into any gear, it usually happens in first gear though.

Well i jb welded the hole for the expletive of it, and after 4 runs, I felt a loud "clunk" and it felt like someone dropped a bucket of bolts under my car. Then i pulled to the side of the road, It smelt horribly of burned oil, so i checked the back of the road and it had a long stream of tranny fluid. I jacked car up, Thee was a HUGE gap where the small hole used to be.
What caused that small hole? What internally couldve flied out.

Small hole.....idk because I dont know what you're referring to. My guess is that somehow your JB weld got inside the tranny, then jammed the gears up (only they were spinning and had the force of the car behind them), so they ate each other alive. Probably threw some **** out the old hole since thats the gear that would've been hit up and/or the huge pile of JB weld you put on there got pulled in and then out, thus making the hole larger.
We found out jb weld had nothing to do with it today, since we foudn the jb weld peice on theflooor laying solid.

You wouldn't be driving your car if you had no fluid in the transmission, because it Will lock up.
It seems like it eventually went though, Try ebay, or around here on the marketplace for a new transmission.
Ls trannies aren't that bad, you can even get a gsr trans for 400-800.

Did it have a big piece of tranny case still attached....
. Yea, check the classifieds for a LS trans and/or your local boards since shipping can be pretty expensive.
Edit: Oh wait, you're in bakersfield.....everything is local for you.
