Default mobil 1 "supersyn" for high milage??

ok, just a little background, i never bothered to switch to synthetic on my teg because, with 108k on the clock now, i don't want the thing to start leaking all over the place. however, i came across this today:

it's a synthetic for high milage cars, i guess. does that mean they realize the leak problem with a high milage synth. switch over? does it also mean it won't happen with this stuff?

what have you heard?

Hmm Bror Jace needs to chime in on this one, if he doesn't then I suggest you IM him, Reno. It's pretty much the same 10w30 synthetic it's always been, the difference is when they changed from the SJ to SL classifications (you can see it on the back, some stores still have some SJ in stock along w/ SL). At least I'm pretty sure that's it. I started using Mobil 5w30 last summer at around 90K miles, and I just changed to 10w30 last time since it's getting warmer now, and 10w30 is more resistant to thermal breakdown than 5w30 is (ask Bror for the info, he's the one that knows all about it, not me).

stick to the regular oil. synthetic is synthetic. doesnt matter if it says its for higher mileage engines. its advertisement propaganda to sell the product.

I ran across the samething not too long ago, but if you didn't notice:
It's just the new version of Mobil 1 10w-30. If you didn't notice, they no longer release a "regular version" of Mobil 1 10w-30. The 5w-30 says for new car, 10w-30 says for higher mileage car(which means cars with a little more miles, and not consider "new" anymore). but it's bascially 10w-30, nothing fancy about it......

Here is a pretty good read on the subject, it is a website selling oils.. but it sounds credable.

stick with the dino oil. i have always used castrol gtx and i have 170,000 miles on my teg and its running great. the new valvoline maxlife and castrol gtx high mileage look like good alternatives for high mileage vehicles

just changed my oil with the new mobil one synthetic. my car seems to run better with it compared to the old tri-synthetic formula. just hope it doesnt burn like the old formula. just need to put some more miles to see if it does burn like the old formula.

Just FYI...I just bought a 5 quart of Mobil 1 5W-30 at Wal-Mart for like $17.88. That's a pretty good deal considering the 1 quart 5W-30's sell for around $5 each. I think you can do the math

PS- I had to go to like 4 different Wal-Marts in the KC area to find the 5 quart 5W-30...I got the last one at the last Wal-Mart I went to.

I have NEVER seen 5-qt. Mobil 1 jugs anywhere. Wal-Mart by me sells the quart bottles of Mobil1 synth. for $3.60 each reg. price. so you paid 2.4 cents less per quart than what I pay.

Really? Every Wal-Mart I went to had a ton of the 5 quarts (except 5W-30 of course). The 1 quarts were like $4.75 ea...what a rip!
