TIMING BELT NEED SOME PRO ADVICE!
im doing a timing belt on a b18b LS. its a jap motor. i am doing the timing and going by with the diagram says. cams have to be pointing at 12 o clock iwth the arrows up rite? now being that sticks are at 12 o clock why is there some tension on the intake cam. it kicks back about 1/4 a turn because the cam is making contact with cylinder number 3 valve springs rite? because i lined up the oil drive gear with the mark at TDC. there is a line like ---> " \" that. so i forced the cam at 12 o clock (intake and the exhaust cam at 12 o clock). but the marks on the inter side of the gears don't Aline by a tooth.. do i not pay attention to those marks and just try to get the arrows at a 12 o clock position and forget about the ones at 3 and 9 o clock on the cam gears? is this rite i mean most belts ive done and chains the cam just stays were i put it. and the crack were i leave it. i had to use the belt tensioner to get it to stay were i put it with the rite amount of tension. please some one with PRO advice Help me out ..damn Honda's!
I did the timing belt on a zc and the cams were like that. If its the same then under the valve cover close to the gears there is a hole and you stick a allen wrench in there to hold it from turning. Then put the timing belt on. Let me try to find a pic to help explain.
Well I hope you understand what I mean because I cant find any pics of that area. Its a hole that goes straight down and there is a hole in the camshaft.
Those 9 and 3 o'clock dashes are supposed to line up. The "up" arrows don't point straight up in the air when set to the proper timing. They'll point at the same angle, but it'll be closer to one o'clock than 12.
Use a straight edge and make sure the 9 oclock and 3 oclock marks line up all the way across.
the up arrows will be pointing to 12 oclock in relation to the angle of the head.
use a small screw driver or framing nail and there are holes in the cam caps to
keep the gears from moving while you are working on the timing belt.
The nail will go through the cam cap and into a small hole in the cam.
then the cams are at tdc for sure

Remember when they say 12:00 on the arrows going up your motor when it sits in the car does not sit flat it has A slight pitch so the arrows have to pitch that same way so really the arrows have to sit at 11:40 and make sure 9: and 3: line up...
