Default Confussed?

I just received my omni power complete coilovers and am very confused by the vague directions. Question is I always thought that the ride heigth was adjusted by the spring perches, but the directions make it sound like you you loosen the lower lock nut that alows the bottom portion that screws on to the rest of the unit and you grab onto the big threaded portion and turn that. So I would like to know if you adjust the heigth by the spring perches or the lower unit. And also how tight do you need to make the lock nuts. I know this may be a confusing question so I'll try to elaborate if you guys have any questions.

The top most perch is the one used for height adjustment. There should be at least one more under that that you use to tighten up against the top one so they wont move.
Some have 3 perches for preloading the spring.

I have those two perches: The one against the spring and then the lock nut for that one. But then I have the one down against the lower half of the unit that can be adjusted so I was wondering wich one.
