Default Heres what happens when u have no oil

Ok so heres the story guys: Just finished the build: CP pistons 10:6:1 Eagle h-beam rods, ACL Race-coated bearings, b16a crank micropolished and ballenced, B16a 81.5mm, you guys get the idea. Anyway motor just got put in car and fired up took up road borught back had a small oil leak that we were going to finish the next day. Well early on thursday morning about 4 AM ish Nov 9. Theif comes and steals the car (broke window) rips ignition out starts the car and leaves right outta my friends (builder) driveway. Drives it pretty much the whole state, like 2 hrs.. (Delaware yes its small) and car breaks down on sit of road i assume b/c it leak out all the oil the whole way up) dude steals IC piping and BOV, back seats, Guages, and glovebox. I HATE THEIVES.

Lived in Grand Forks for about 6 1/2 years. That's about the ONLY thing I liked about that state. That and KJ108. I miss that radio station. Tanner and Mars in the morning rocked.

Well at least you got most of it back. I'd rather have a burnt engine, the turbo, and most of the shell than just a cop saying "Sorry, we'll keep an eye out *giggle*". I'd have the builder give some names of people he knows who lives near where the theif was going, since it had to be someone who knew that guy built cars up.

I also think that's cool the rods didn't break, despite being 'cheap eagles' as some people think. I'd think it would only be $1500 to replace the parts & machine work, rather than a good $4-5k for the entire setup/car.

No doubt. It looks like the bottom end got REALLY hot!

I don't think I've ever seen a bottom end with heat marks like that without bent or snapped rods. Usually the lack of oil leads to heat which leads to the rods seizing on the crank and snapping like twigs.

I would say that you are lucky, but you just got your car stolen so I won't.

Sorry to hear about the loss. Sucks that you were so close to finishing the build and then this **** happens.

Yea the rods took a beating for sure. BUt you can definatly see where they started to fail. The builder and I have known each other for years, its prolly somone i knew from high school or something. BUt its pretty unlikely I will ever find them. As for the insurence they are not going to cover anything, it was only liability

i dont know, but someone needs to figure that out....its not fair that someone like the OP spent a lot of time and money on this and just to have some poor, mouth-breathing f*cker wreck everything....that's not fair

I put a benson block in a kids car and he forgot to tighten the drain plug on his 2nd oil change. Drove it until the light came on. His crank looked just like that but a little blacker. I had to snap the ARPs off the rods since they were so seized up. What a mess.
Sorry to hear about this, did the cyl walls or head take a beating?

head was fine, sent it away to machine shop to get it double checked and cleaned up. Cylinder walls look pretty good, there is some scratching, but shouldnt effect anything, pistons survived as well.
