Need Honda Civic Help?
Hello,
Just bought a Civic EX 97 with 118,000 miles. Just got some new tires, alignment, front brakes, new front discs. Car runs fine, but i feel it should have more power. Any advices? Plus i was going to get a new timing belt with all the jazz that comes with that and also add some NGK spark plugs.
The car feel like somtimes it gets stuck around 25-35 and then finally shfts gears, but this issue happen every now a then. What can i do about that?
Plus I changed the brakes and the discs and the brakes feel okay, doesnt feel full.
Im in New Jersey, so if anyone knows a good shop to take it too, let me know.
Thanks.

I take it it's an automatic. If you go to and car and driver review website, read up on the auto civics. They are good cars, but for any peppiness you're in the wrong department unless you plan on boosting it.

Yeah, that's a good way of putting it. The automatic civics aren't as fast as they should be. See, in an ideal world auto vs manual the automatic should win everytime; this is because an automatic transmission can shift faster and smoother than any human. The only problem with that is it's ideally. In the real world it doesn't work like that, especially with Hondas. Honda automatic transmissons suck - that's pretty much what it comes down to, plain and simply.
I'm sure somebody'll mention it, but Honda auto to manual swaps are very popular because they're easy as hell and cheap too. Might want to look into that. Other than that I can just say it's working the way it's supposed to, Honda automatic tranny, slow on the shifting, breaks easily, can't handle heavy loads, and lacks in the acceleration department.
Seriously, auto >> man tranny swap, look into it. Not as hard as one might think.

In the meantime, Read up as much as you can here to see about what you want to do with your 5spd civic. Provided you want to mod it.
I would do the same thing if I was stuck with an auto. Sell it. Unless I was attached to the car or something it's too easy to sell for another.
