Default super fuel efficient crx (can't find thread / need more info)

I remember a thread on here a while back where a guy was trying to get 60 mpg. It was either with the vtec-e or the 3 stage vtec.
Anywho, if anyone has a link to that, I will greately appreciate it.
If you have some useful info or ideas on this, please post.
I am playing around with the idea of building a super ifficient crx.
What chasis / engine should I use?
I am thinking Hf (offcourse) with a d15 vtec-e from the vx. The 3 stage would probably be much better, but it seems like they are hard to come by, the ecu is rare, and they are obdII.

PS - I want to get over 50mpg. Is it worth it trying with my Si?
Also, I don't want a stock Hf. I know you can get 50mpg, but I want a reliable DD with Ok power.

I know someone that gets 46 mpg in his 94 CX, that engine in the lighter HF chasis should give at least 50 mpg, it's 8 valve, MPFI, 70hp, OBD-1 though. The VX and HX engines are both supposed to get over 50mpg in their respective chasis so again it would work better in teh lighter chasis but like you said, VX is OBD-1, and HX is OBD-2, VX being 1.5L with 90 something hp I think(don't really remember), and the HX being 1.6L with 115hp.

All great gas mileage engines in the d-series.
Nice lightweight VX/HX rims would help nicely complement the light chasis with the same engine setup...

Thanks for the info. Now I would know what car to look for at the junk yard! Thats if I can't find one at one of the major stores.

dead stock crx hf dual point motor swap but retained original manifold it got 51.4 so it was a 16 valve 1.5 i easily could have pushed it into the 55 plus range with some minor tweaks and tuning the trans had 250 thousand miles too .... gotta love hondas

Mine will barely top 60mpg if I zealously maintain 55mph.
I will be at 50mpg at 60-65mph
pretty much staying under 3k rpm

No special tricks
just a young JDM engine and recommended oil on the trans
I have noticed thicker oil like synchomesh or other stuff not recommended by honda will lower mileage, after all the hp has to push through the lube b4 it pushes the car.
