Default A PLEA to NOPI/NDRA

Although I have heard rumors that you might be replacing the drag race series with drifting, I assume that will not happen.
My plea to you is to please match your classes/rules to NHRA's for 2007.
Your organization has come up with innovative ideas and made life style events the norm for import races. You always host a great event. I feel that you will get a greater turnout if the pro and average racer knows that what he has built will work for NHRA and NOPI events. If you feel the need to add classes for Mustangs and Camaros for the events, I think that is great. Add any class you think will put more fans in the stands. Just make it so that the average sport compact racer knows that, when attending your event, he will be racing his peers and not a mixture of mis-matched cars. Thanks

Not sure about any of the other classes but sfwd and turbostreet are close enough that 99 percent of cars can run in either class.

What would be a really good idea is if this thread would be an open forum of proposals to both organizations which at a set date they could sit down together and discuss issues and ideas brought up in this thread so as to help the sport grow. From the input then come up with classes that are pretty much the same or that would make it fairly easy to run both series.

But since this is honda-tech 99% of this thread will turn into people hating on both organizations and not coming up with innovative and well thought out ideas. Of that 99% of hating 98% will be people that have never raced or claim they will race in 07 but will never show up.

Not really...here is the final round at the ndra race which neither of these cars are legal to run sport front at nhra.

Brian Ballard Chevy Cobalt .005 9.465 157.76 Winner
Dan Dixon Toyota Supra .323 9.372 156.34

P.S. Brian, nice reaction time

An open forum would be nice but let's face it...NHRA is going to do what it is going to do. They normally make pretty good decisions and adjustments. All we can hope for is that NOPI will emmulate their classes so that we can run one week at NHRA and next week at NOPI without making wholesale changes.

What is wrong with seeing a 6.50 Celica, race a 6.50 Mustang? Or a 7.30 Solara, race a 7.30 Camaro or Stang?

I think that is wicked...

Or a 8 Second Radial Supra Racing and 8 Second Radial Mustang...

Great racing in my opinion... If more people would race, I think NDRA could align their classes better.

I agree. A lot of the pro classes right now aren't seeing great turnout. Maybe the only way to keep butts in the seats is to integrate domestics into the classes as Nopi has.

It looks like the biggest change they need is to match nhra's hot rod class, everything else seems to be pretty good. Turbo street works, pro outlaw works kinda, pro compact not enough sport compact support in both series, pro front would work better if their hot rod was matched to nhra.

I think it would be great if NOPI went with 28" tires and also allowed the liberty billet bell housing for the Pro4 class. Chuck proved that it doesn't matter he's gone 8.2?. I think making the classes as close as possible would be great for racer turn out in that class and yeah it's going to be tough for some of the smaller teams but that's how you learn to get better and go faster. Plus the parts are so much better now. You can run a 28" tire and not break something every other pass. I'm not saying the rules have to be identical but at least allow the cars in with some type off affordable restriction like adding weight or allowing a car on 26" to weigh less or something on those lines.

A rumor I heard towards the end of the season was that they were going to split the 4 and 6 cylinders again in NOPI. Not sure if they are still looking to go that way.

Thanks Mike

ps - the schedule for NOPI is pretty much set

http://www.nopi.com/2006/nopi_drift_web.pdf

in there, I believe on page 5, there's a list of NOPI drag racing events and where they are at. Just gotta finalize dates (they want to make sure they don't conflict, obviously)

I hope it's not just a rumor and they do split it up..

I wasn't any kind of competition running Vs Sam Mahdavi's Supra, just didn't make sense .. First round eliminations I was out! I'm just the typical average Joe working out of a backyard garage..

they should split the 4 / 6 cycl cars and a super should not be paired with a civic. Also they NHRA should allow the Cobalt to run SFWD.

As always i have to play devils advocate, But whats the difference between people running their swapped civics vs Brians Cobalt. I'd love to see his car run NHRA and i really think the C.S.I. crew/Ballard got a bum deal on that. I think right now either series shouldn't shouldn't be turning away any car. LET HIM RACE!!!!!!
