Aftermarket valve springs, valves, and retainers, and get aftermarket cams while you're at it. While you have it apart, change the valve stems and cam seals.

Why do you want to go that high, with out some HUGE cams, revving to 10k is just bragging rights to the uniformed and abuse to valve train.

You will need alot of work, search in the all motor area for a few 10K+ spinning motors.

agreed....and just because you're revving to 10k doesn't mean you're making power to that point either

Sounds like a pretty good setup, but you'll find shifting around 9200-9500 will probably yield the best times....trying to take it to 10k is going to drag on and on and you might as well shift and get it back down into the thick of the powerband. Ofcourse I'd also ditch that LS tranny for a GSR or B16. LS trans are good when you have a turbo setup making 250+ ft/lbs of torque, not so much on the 140-150 range of a NA motor like yours.

Yea besides the head work you'll really need to build the bottom end and need to have some serious cams and pistons to be making power that high up, along with the intake- and exhaust-side work to get the air moving in and out. Since you're asking this question that kind of tells me that you're not going that allout with this build since you didn't know the answer to your question, so you won't be making power that high anyway, so it'd be pointless. Tune the engine on a dyno and shift at where the power begins dropping off, if that engine is built for those RPMs.

getting rid of the ls tranny for a gsr or b16 will help lower your times a decent amount. revving your motor to 10,000 rpm is pointless ( and will cause serious damage ) if you don't have the proper mods to A. actually make any power that high and B. be able to withstand it.

For one, in his original statement he said that he had wisecos (said nothing about rods, but even stock GSR rods will withstand 240whp and can handle 10k). Thus, his bottom end should be fine assuming its assemblied worth a crap. On top of that, just because hes not making power (and it is pointless to rev to 10k) does NOT mean it will harm the engine. He said he was upgrading his valvesprings and misc other stuff, there is no reason the motor shouldnt withstand 10k. Yes, it would be pointless to rev that high and he'd "go faster" shifting before that, but from a physical stand point, its very very unlikely he'd blow the motor. If he did, it would be assembly and not parts. I've taken my stock gsr bottom end (with ITR pistons) to 9k (yes I had valvesprings and tons of other bs parts). I feel confident that it could've gone to 10k and not fallen apart and would've pushed it there had I had a need to do so.

If you're going to pull the head off, then you need to do everything at once. This really makes me think you need to do some minor upgrades (like valvesprings and some ITR cams) and rock out with that for awhile before trying to take it to 10k. Valvesprings, ITR/stage I cams, ecu tune....should do you for a little while.
