83mm piston rings in 82mm bore?
I know this forum is probably the wrong place to ask this, but I figured I would try anyway in case someone has some experience with this.
For background, i just purchased some RS Machines 82mm (81mm, .040" overbore) pistons, and I just finished having my block machined to fit them. I checked the ring gap after machining, and it was about twice what I was looking for.
I am trying to contact RS machines to see if they just sent me the wrong rings, but it is my understanding that the hastings rings they supply are just undersized, to keep amateur assemblers from siezing their motors if they dont check the end gap. Also, it seems like 82mm is a pretty rare size for honda pistons, so I dont have the option of using stock honda rings, and different aftermarket rings are apparently hard to come by.
So my question is: can I use 83mm piston rings in an 82mm bore, assuming I file them to the correct end gap?
I understand this would mean a lot of filing, but are there any other downsides that anyone knows about? Does the increase in ring pressure cause premature wear on the cylinders? Does the additional bending put too much stress on the rings? Is there something else I am not thinking of?
I would appreciate any input on this subject. thanks.

you shouldn't really file that much off, if you do the rings won't be round anymore when they are compressed, they will oval some. I wouldn't think that 82mm rings woul dbe hard to find. How big of a difference is there in the gap between what yours are and what you want??
