My quest for performance gone bad
My brother in law financed my '95 GSR through his work, so my car is in his name. I pay for the car every month but he just has it in his name. So, technically it is his but I pay for it. In the beginning when I got the car, he said I couldn't buy anything for it because he wanted to make sure I had enough to pay the payment. So this month I had a little extra money and I wanted to buy an AEM CAI from a friend for 100 w/ a bypass valve. So, I told my brother in law that I was buying an intake and he said what are you going to do with it? I said put it on. And then he got pissed because I told him there had to be another reason he wouldn't let me put it on and he hung up on me. So, now he is pissed and can't act like a man about it so he is saying that if I can't get the loan in my name, then he is going to sell my car? My last chance to get the car in my name is through my work (Acura of Memphis). I already checked my bank and they wouldn't help me bacuse my car is a 95 and they only do 96 and above. This really sucks.
talk with your sales manager or director of the dealership and see if he will buy the car from him, and sell it back to you for a little more.. thats how i got mine. my dad knew the sales manager at our honda dealership and the dealership bought the car from the guy, and then sold it to me.. at a badass fixed 8%apr compared to the bank's 12.5%. he just added a grand to what they payed for it. all in all, it came out to what i would have eventually payed for it through a third party deal.
sorry to hear about your situation, that guy is acting like an ***..

I don't see what his problem is...I mean you're still paying for the loan on time every time right?
But since he did you a favor by having it signed under his name, I guess you can't do much about it....Suck it up and just apologize. Then install the CAI secretely...

I don't know that apologizing will help now. He is pissed. But I think he is acting like a little kid. I am talking to my finance manager today at work. I'm afraid to put it on now. But, he has never checked my car to make sure I haven't messed with it.

I wouldn't let a brother, much less a brother-in-law tell me what the ***** to do with something I'm paying for out of my own wallet.

dang, I got a loan for my 94 last year, but that was through City of Memphis credit union... but the only way I got an account there is because my grandfather is a retired Memphis fire fighter.... you or someone in your family has to be a city employee to get an account there.

Why would you even tell him? Does he inspect your engine once a week to make sure your not doing anything? Does he even know what the integra engine looks like stock?
How come u didn't co-sign with him on this loan. Then it would have been in your name and he would be there just in case u didn't pay.
yea dude , best bet is a credit union .
i can walk in with intent to buy something and walk out with a check right there, and get a great rate too .
shop around anything is possible.
i got my 1st teg brand new off the lot with all the goodies when i was 18. there is always a way . they wouldnt do it without a co signer. but i got em to do it and payments were hella low and like 4.9 rate from honda.

that sucks.. he shouldnt have anything to worry about as long as your making the payments right? what a dick and he's fockin ur sister too (he's ur bro in law).. hahah j/p... im just messin.. but seriously.. if your making the payments on time I dont see what he's trippin about... you shouldnt have told him.. but since you work for acura.. see if you can get some kinda deal on a loan through the finance manager or credit union...
Hey, my mom works for the City of Memphis so she might be able to do it through them. She is going to check tomorrow. thanks guy's. I appreciate your hatred for my bro-in-law and stickin' up for me. I just turned 18. But last night when I went to my sisters house to deliver the whole car payment, he and I got into it and we started yelling and ****. He was talking and I said something and he said, "Interupt me again, I dare you!" I was like whatever dude. So he was like trying to beat my *** or something all because I asked if I could put an intake on my car. Damn family member.

Responsibility.
The car is under his name. His credit is on the line. Yes, he seems like an *** for not letting you mod his car, but at the same time, it's his credit on the line.

Refinance it so you can get the car under your name, then you can do what you like and all the potential consequences are yours and not his. Getting a cosigner should get you a good rate too. Having little or no credit history makes it hard to get a loan on your own, but it is possible if you're really in a bind and are willing to pay a high interest rate. I could have gotten mine without one, but it was a lot easier and quicker for them to approve me with a cosigner, and I got a nice 7.5% rate too.
I'm the primary person on all of the paperwork and it's my decision if I want to mod it, pay it off, sell it, etc; the cosigner isn't involved with anything unless I were to be a deadbeat and stop paying the loan off.

Seeing as he's family, I'd try to talk in over with him to see if you can resolve anything. His reaction doesn't make any sense, why he'd get mad at you wanting to put a CAI on the car. Now he's wanting to sell the car? Totally, unacceptable behavior from a brother in law. What an ***.
Well you peopleshould think about how it is in the other guy's shoes. Think about it. Let's say your brother-in-law wanted a nice car but couldn't get the finance for it. So you're a nice guy and use your name to sign for the car.
I know I wouldn't want my brother-in-law to go out buying performance parts for it when the car still needs to be paid for. I mean what if he is short on money sometime down the road or is late for a payment. I wouldn't want my credit get screwed up.
So I think he is in every right to do what he did. I would do the same probably if I were him. Suck it up. Try to get the car financed through your name or apologize.
