Does anyone remember 1997-2001 ?
Demand was quite high all years, but not to the point were all the cars were presold before hitting the dealers.
Currently there is no Integra/RSX made, so not sure how they are going to bring over a Type R model.

It has been my understanding that the demand for the 1998 ITR was not that great in the US which is why you guys didn't get one for 1999.
In 98 when I talked to the dealerships about the R, if they were even getting one they were already sold. The only time it wasn't sold is when they didn't even know they were getting one. According to a guy who i talked to this weekend who worked for acura at the time said not one single type R sat at the dealership for more than 1-2 weeks before it was gone.

This is true in some areas of the US. I know in Ohio the local dealership had 2-3 98s that were there well into the 99 model year.
Heck, in 2000 Acura was offering 3 year leases on the ITRs only that were very good deals.

I remember walking into an Acura dealership in London Ontario Canada in 97, and seeing a CW TypeR for the first time. I was totally blown away with this car that came "souped up" from the factory, with stock wing, and high-perf exhaust.
I remember asking myself when I could ever afford a car like that...I thought about getting one almost every day

When they came out I was 16 and it was a dream away. I was crapping around in crx's for years. I think from 98-02 I saw just as many ITR's in real life as I'd seen ferarri's, they were hard to find in Upstate, NY.

I definately see more Ferraris than ITRs.

The car came out in July, and it took a while for word to get around. Even in '98, as noted above, demand wasn't overwhelming. There were a lot of dealers who had '98 cars sitting in the showroom for months.
In '00-01, they sold pretty well. When they got to the dealer, they were either already sold, or they sold quickly, usually within a matter of days.

Not in '97-98 we weren't. The economy was strong throughout the mid to late 1990s and didn't really take a nosedive until mid to late 2001, by which time all the ITRs had been sold.

That's because a lot more Ferraris have been sold. I think Ferrari sells 1000-2000 cars per year in the States, whereas only 3850 ITRs were sold here (all years).

Not exactly true.. It was because Honda was coming out with the S2000 and the Civic Si in 99.
Also the dealership that bought my ITR from had friggin 9 of them. I got to go through em and pick the number i wanted. I called to talk to my sales lady like a lil over a month later and she said they where all gone.

Not true. The S2000 didn't come out until later, when the ITR was back.
The '98 just didn't sell all that well. Like I said, I saw a bunch that had been sitting in dealer showrooms for months. (I think part of the reason some of them were sitting was because many greedy dealers were asking over sticker, sometimes exorbitantly so.)

That's true. In '99, it wasn't clear that the ITR would return the following year. And, even though it was well known even back then that the RSX was coming, it wasn't clear until early '01 that the DC5 ITR would not make it to the States (e.g. as the RSX Type R).

I got my ITR in april of 98. I got mine right @ $24,500 what the sticker showed. I'm sure some dealers where wantin crazy over stickered price.
That is what i was told by an actual OWNER of a honda dealership. They didn't want Acura to have to compete with Hondas new releases comin out.
I'm not sure why canada got the ITR in 99.

It was almost non-existent. You have to remember when the ITR was first introduced in the U.S., most import enthusiasts almost believed it was a myth. When I bought my ITR in Aug of '98, there was only one guy in my area with a '97. I don't know how many times I had to answer the obligatory, "is it or is that a real ITR?"

Yeah that's true.
When I got mine back in March 1998, there were 3 other sitting in their lot. Even when I returned for the first free oil change, which was like a month later, all 3 of them were still there.
IIRC I got mine a little less than MSRP.

Got mine in August 1998, paid a couple grand less than MSRP after a lot of moaning about price, and there were 5 between the closest 2 Acura dealers sitting on the lot at the time.

I was working on an Acura lot in Denver CO during those times. I remember they where marked up starting with the 98s. At the lot I worked at the R's had a $2300 mark-up. It was labled as "the Denver Market Adjustment."
There where no test drives given and if you asked for a discount you where asked to leave.
Thats why I was forced to buy an Si in 00 instead of what I really wanted.

I bought mine new in 2001, and it had been sitting unsold at the dealer for at least a month. Got it for a little under sticker price. But I'm in a small town. In Atlanta, one dealer I visited had a wait-list for used ones, and was charging over new-msrp for them.
