uppper and lower ball joints for the hub
Lately it feels like my car is all over the road and when i take off my rims i can move my hub like 10-25degrees (something like that) i was wondering if there is a way to replace the ball joint without replacing the upper contol arm and the lower, wheni put new suspension and my car and got an alignment the guy said that my ball joints were lose but at the time i didnt really notice it. Any help would be appreciated
an i getting ball joints mixed up with the wheel bearing? im talking about the bearking or ball joint i dont know what it is called in the upper conrotl ram and i nthe lower on which the hub rotates on? there is a screw that comes out of it with a castle nut ? are we talkinga bout the same thing or something different?
get yourself a shop manual and have a look at the knuckle drawing.
the knuckle is the large cast piece that bolts between both control arms, the hub, and the steering rack.
the hub is what holds the wheel studs, and is pressed into the wheel bearing which is pressed into the knuckle.
the knuckle is bolted to the upper and lower control arms with ball joints.
if you can move the hub, you need to press it out and replace the wheel bearings.
if you can grab the knuckle and shake it around, then you need to press out and replace the ball joints.

wheel bearing could be worn out. if you drive with a bad wheel bearing long enough it will ruin your hub.
put on some gloves, grab the top of the knuckle and shake it violently. it may or may not move but if you hear a knocking sound then the upper ball joint has play. replace it.
do the same thing for the lower ball joint, grab the lower part of the knuckle and see what happens.
