GS500 suzuki question about value
Well my buddy has a GS500 he bought and laid down going about 30mph when he hit a patch of leaves. He broke a mirror, the cluster, dented and scratched the tank on the left side and also scratched the rear left faring. The bike has 11k and it runs but has a little oil it looks like under the carbs? I never knew oil went through the carbs but his buddy said it does. So it may need the carbs cleaned and what not. So here is where he stands he needs the bike gone and is a good friend. He said I can take it for 500 if I want and fix it and sell it. The thing is would I get my money back and make some on this bike? For just parts it’s around 75$ and then I was thinking instead of getting a new tank and fairing I would just clean them up and do a 20$ paint job on them.
Do I know how to work on bikes? I hope so lol.. I have never owned a motorcycle but have had 4 wheelers and 3 wheelers and have never had a problem with maintaining them. So should I pick this bike up or no? Oh it’s also a 97'

I usually see GS500's going for the mid-teens (in CA, which is higher than everywhere else), given the mileage, dropped condition, and a reasonable restore, you'll get 1200 or so pretty easy, imo.
the question is whether that margin makes it worthwhile for you.

Well I mean I figure with replacing the parts it should take me a day or so. The thing is what would case the oil or what ever it is to leak from the carbs after it was dropped? I just dont want to take on a project that is more than I can handle.
