Cleaning My New 16'' JDM White ITR Rims...
So I get my JDM 16'' White Rims in today straight from japan! Thats JDM y0. I got a real good deal on them so I had to jump on them. They are used and were pretty scuffed up/dirty when I got them. I tried to search for some useful ways to clean white rims, found just the basics, soap and water etc. Nothing in great detail so I decided to start experimenting. I know its pretty basic but it really left my rims like new so I have to share the knowledge. Yes this is an appearence/cosmetic related topic, but I jsut wanted to share it with the ITR group first. This is what I did...
1) Put all rims in the bathtub blasting hot water for 30 min with the bathroom door close. I came back and found that all the grease/oils etc pretty much came right off if it wasn't already off. Im guessing the extreme hot air/hot water. Made pretty much my own sauna
2) Bucket of hot water with Zip Turtle Wax Soap and a white rag and I started to clean all the left over dirt. Looked pretty clean at this point.
3) Dried rims off completely
4) Rubbing Compound by 3M, my friends swore by this stuff, so I gave it a shot. Went to Autozone and they all swore by it also. Now I swear by it too. It took out the smallest stains/scuffs/discoloration at all! After I wiped down the rim with a clean rag.
5) Zymoil Cleaner Wax. For those who havn't tried it, buy some asap. This stuff is awesome. A tad on the pricey side (13.99) but well worth it. Used a wax pad to wax each rim, then came back to the first rim and used a microfiber cloth to wipe it down, and so on with the rest of the rims. This left the rims perfect. Soft to the touch!
6) Mount them on your car and be a pimp
(Gotta wait till firday for me
) Cant wait to take my stock 15'' USDMs and clean them too!
Keep in mind that some people say used simple green, greased lightening and other products. By using them you could mess up the clear coat on the rims (honda rims have clear anyways) or what powdercoat/metalic surface. Metallic surfaces tend to get discolored.
I sure wish I had a Before picture but here is the finished product along with the items I used to clean the rims.

Glad you came to a decision, but keep in mind both those cars are lowered. If you want "that look" then different suspension is going to be a must. I was under the assumption your car was remaining bone stock though????

Yea I know they are lowered. As nice as they are lowered, id rather keep the car stock. Just baught these rims to try something a little different. Im keeping the stock wheels so Ill switch back and fourth depending on my mood. Only other thing im doing is a OEM fog light kit, optional sideskirts and rear valence. Then im done!

Yeah i was done when i bought mine bone stock too
$7K later ....
My guess is after getting the wheels, skirts and rear valences on you want to put susupension on it too. Trust me... the look of 16" on stock suspension won't be as appealing to you as you had hoped. Good luck with the temptation
Nice set of wheels though

that's a ton of steps, I just clean mine with a rag and soapy water once a week, they stay perfect.
If I took all those steps just to clean my wheels I never want to hit my brakes with means totalled R.

Has anyone done this? How is the ride. I love the stock suspension which is why i dont want to mess with it.

good luck.
good luck.
Nice.
I'd have to say that those 16's are absolutely the best looking wheels on the CW R's. Too bad they're not DS legal.
Out of curiousity, anyone know the weight?
