Default Engine buzzing when I hit vtec

I left my lights on this morning and my battery died, but after I got it jump started and let my car idle for a while, I drove it home. Normally when I'm at 4500rpm I can hear the vtec engage and its a sort of mild scream/whine, but today it seemed like it was almost buzzing and it starts around 3000-3500rpm. Anyone know what the deal is?

What did you loosen when you jumped your battery?

Or maybe you have a new hole in your muffler?

I didn't loosen anything when I jumpstarted my car and my exhaust is a fairly new Tanabe SMH exhaust, so no holes...

"a buzzing noise when i hit vtec" really isn't a good example of what the problem is there champ.

209632 users have no idea of what you're talking about.

When Vtec engages at 4500rpm and you hear it whine.
Well, there is a slight buzzing, coming from something rotating in my engine bay, that engages around 3000-3500rpm now.
aka It's a noise I shouldn't be hearing.
Engine gurus would have an inclination.
Throw me some possibilities.

Thanks for your words of help, champ.

Could it be valves floating or a spun bearing or something? Whatever it is I'm sure it has nothing to with my battery.

No one is gonna throw you any ideas if your explanation is a jump start and then buzzing between 3k and 3.5k.

Engine components will not buzz. They are more likely to tap.

sounds like a loose bolt to me. Ive got one in my exhaust somewhere after the cat.. but it goes away as I rev past it... Does this buzzing continue to redline?

**ADDENDUM!***

I realize this thread is ancient, but I recently had the same thing successfully diagnosed and repaired, and thought I'd leave my two cents in the hopes it's helpful.

Have a look at your vtec valve assy, aka vtec solanoid. Mine was leaking, according to the dealer's tech. They replaced the whole assembly and it sounds beautiful now. No more buzz!

Best of luck to any that find this thread.

My car is a stock 2008 Si Couple.
