Default F###ED UP THE R!!!!

First of all, I'm a moron but we live and learn I guess.

Last night driving on the way home, I accidentally downshifted into 3rd from 4th reving the crap out of my motor for about 2-3 seconds. CEL came up as soon as I got home:

71 Cylinder 1 Misfire or a Random Misfire a condition is present that is creating a cylinder misfire

72 Cylinder 2 Misfire or a Random Misfire a condition is present that is creating a cylinder misfire

73 Cylinder 3 Misfire or a Random Misfire a condition is present that is creating a cylinder misfire

74 Cylinder 4 Misfire or a Random Misfire a condition is present that is creating a cylinder misfire

So I do a compression check @ WOT and warmed up and get 155-125-150-155.

So what you guys think?

Sorry to hear man. Just relax and go through what you need to to diagnose the problem and fix it.

If you only bent valves i would consider yourself fortunate. Hope for the best.

Thanks for the support guys, will do a leak down test tonight and see what's going on. What's the worse thing that could have broke? I sure would be lucky if it is only the valves. I'm not sure what RPM I was in 4th but I was in VTEC and I'm sure I went past 10k in 3rd OUCH.

if it was really bad, you could have BROKEN the valves by piston contact. but I dont think thats the case since your compression isnt 0 on any cylinders. sounds like you got lucky. at the very least sounds like you are going to have to replace some valves, seals, and maybe guides. hopefully no damage was done to the valve seats and no piston to valve contact. a leakdown is probably only going to show huge leaks at the valves.

I'll get you some pics on thursday night of what can happen when a mis-shift occurs. Guy only had like 2500 miles on his recent rebuild before he messed it up. #3 has a hole in it, the head is toast as well, but in his instance the head of the valve broke off and went bouncing around in there.

This was a mis shift, but you obviously didn't do anything quite this bad.

Here's all the ladies lined up after my misshift.......

At least I did it on the roadcourse having fun The R has gone 52,000 miles since rebuild soo I think its alright

btw.........Your misshift doesn't sound all that bad. My compressions after mine were something along the line of 120,20,15,25. I can't remember, but it was that bad. No block damage from this though. This picture is 3rd to 2nd at about 8,000 RPM in 3rd

Good luck with the rebuild

Wow so I guess it could have worse. I tried calling at a shop while I'm at work for a leak down test and it was $93. WTF I'll just buy a tester at that price. I'm also looking for a vtec head to swap out so that I can still run around while I get the R head rebuilt.

W00t for bent valves... I am a two time member..

This was my first set... The second set was much worse..

As a few peples have mentioned already, do a leak down test. You more then likely bent some valves. Its not that hard of a fix..

Ps...Nice pixor Erik...

I don't know how many miles are on your car, but I would go ahead and re-ring, do new seals, bearings and timing belt/water pump while your at it(if your over 60k+miles). A few weeks ago I had some bent valves, and I had 0 compression in #1. I did the whole build (i'm at 92K and was burning oil bad) and the car ran like a champ, until my cold-air decided to go snorkling.

I got 53K on it, I'm still debating if I'm pulling the whole motor out and replace it with a spare for now and might as well build it while it's out. Or just replace the head or WTF. I sure have no ideas yet.
