Default 1996 Accord LX-check engine light issue

I own a 1996 Accord (110k) , bought it used in April 2004. I had the tranny rebuilt in december 2004. Since then everything ok.
Ok, so check engine light came on in september 2006. Took it to one Honda shop, they couldn't pull any codes on the computer, but I didn't feel anything wrong with the car and inspection was coming up, so I had them reset the light.
Now november 2nd 2006, check engine light comes on again. I've been driving with it on for 10 days. I finally take it to another Honda shop, and after 2 - 3 hours of running diagnostics, they come up with that the tranny is dying, about 6 more months left, $2900 for a new tranny. ?????????????? Is it possible for a rebuilt tranny to die out in 2 years. The shifts feel ok. I think i'll take it to another shop.

forgot to mention, I've taken it to 2 honda shops and my mechanic, and nobody could pull a code on the computer. And I passed inspection in New Jersey. 1996 accord automatic.

I'd be looking for a good independent shop. if the Check Engine Lite comes on there should be a code stored in the ECU.
yes it is possible for a rebuilt trans to die in 2 years time; it depends on who rebuilt it and what kind of sleazy work they did. As far as the diagnose of 6 months left....they must have a crystal ball!! I'd stay away from that place.

6 months left??????? id love to know how they figured that out.. than maybe i could sell my car before i breaks big time lol.. do what hondaddude says.. find a good independent shop... and i think that shop is just trying to get more money out of you.. as far as codes.. there should be a service port connecter underneath the glove box.. it wont be connected to anything.. should be red or green colored.. mine is and mine is a 95.. and take a plain wire and jump the two leads on the service port connecter.. and watch your check engine light.. it shoudl flash a "X" amount of times.. that will tell you what code it sees... like if it flashes 8 long flashes and 2 short flashes than the code is 8-2 and just look it up online what it is... but remember DO NOT HAVE THE CAR RUNNING AT ALL.. just in ON POSITION.. considering you are jumping the ECU
