Rear disk brake caliper problem
The passanger side rear caliper is dragging and seems to be freezing up. I had this same problem with the drivers side a few months ago i took it apart and there was rust on the piston and inside the caliper, i cleaned it up put it together and it works fine. Wondering if i should do the same with this one or can i just use calipers off a newer SI or Integra, will they bolt up?
yours are just a bit smaller (dont you hate it when people tell you that. haha) than an integra or si coupe. theirs are about a 1/2 in. or so bigger rear rotor so the caliper is spaced to fit that. youd have to swap everything for both rears.
Hmm well that's ghetto. I guess i'll do the same thing it did to the other to it. It was a pain in the *** though.
What all do i need for the swap?

The piston won't cause it to hang. There are 2 pins that the caliper floats on. Take the caliper off, separate the 2 halves. Be careful that you don't tear the little rubber boots that cover the pins when you do this. Clean those pins with some brake cleaner, lube them up with the appropriate grease and re-assmble. They should float freely now.
The rears seem to need to be serviced a lot more often than the fronts for some reason, not sure why.

When i took the other one apart i never saw two pins, i have no idea what you're talking about. From what i remember i had to turn the piston (which took like 2 hours to brake free) untill it unscrewed from the caliper, remover the dust cover, and then i believe there was a rubber seal i had to remove. There was rust and trash all inside and the piston was pitted by the rust. I cleaned it out best i could and reassembled, this took forever 'cause i had to get the seal and dust cover to stay in thier groves while i turned the piston back into the caliper. I looked in my manual and it said that the rear caliper could not be rebuild as there is no rebuild kit avalibleto be bought, requiered special tools, and i should take it to the dealer for a remanufactured unit. I don't recall seeing the pins that you speak of.

When the manual says rebuild, they're talking about rebuilding the hyraulic portion of the caliper, honing the sleeve, etc.
When you look at the caliper, you'll see 2 rubber boots that look like little "acordians". These are the boots that cover those pins. They are "acordian-like" in appearance so that they can expand/contract when you press/release the brake pedal. In your case, since you say the brake is hanging, they will be bunched up tight (compressed).

Don't worry about the piston. You said you were able to rotate it, therefore it's not frozen. I tried to find a photo of these pins online for you but I can't. Maybe if you can wait until the weekend, I'll disassemble mine and get a shot of them for you. If you remove the floating part of the caliper though, you can't miss them.
Well like i said at first the piston would not budge, it took me 2 hours to get where i could turn them. I was goig to take them apart today but i don't feel like messing with it. I just wont drive it for a while.
Ok man, it's raining here today so I can't get an actual photo of the pins, so I just took a picture of my shop manual that shows what I'm talking about.

Clean and lubricate those and I think you'll find that the calipers work fine.

that's not a photo of the piston. It depicts someone putting grease on the REAR CALIPER PIN. This is the part you said you could not find. When my rear calipers hung up the way you've described, this was the problem.
It's the piston thats froze i'm almost sure. It's what happend to the other side. My drags to where if i drive it over heats and smokes.
