It could detonate so badly that it destroys itself. One possible outcome.

If the knock sensor is operational, the most likely outcome is loss of power and throttle response, as well as increased deposit build-up in the combustion chambers and fuel injectors (high-octane fuel typically has a higher dose of anti-deposit detergents).

Fatal detonation is possible as well, but not likely unless the motor is poorly maintained in other respects, such as ignition timing being off, fouled plugs, etc. Then again, if he's using 87 octane just to save a lousy $2 per fill-up, he's probably not maintaining the motor.

No, it's not just an Integra. It's a rare car that will someday be worth a considerable sum more than just an Integra.

I understand people may do as the wish with their property. But it also is a stupid waste to abuse an R by running fuel with an improper octane rating, or ricing it out, etc. And since this is a board dedicated to the R, populated by R enthusiasts, one shouldn't be surprised to find here an adverse reaction to such stupidity.

with the compression its running, with that bad octane, the knock sensor won't be able to stop it detonating

mine ALWAYS get 99RON without fail

Man, don't use crappy fuel.. Never mind the obvious consecuenses of the crappy fuel.. simply consider that if you invested in an expensive swap, why would you short-change yourself by using crappy fuel ??

Is your brother cheap or just ignorant?

If he wrecks his motor, good for him. He doesn't deserve to have it anyways.
