Default Transmission swap

Is it cheaper to fix a broken automatic, either to re-build to get one from a scrap yard. Or to swap in a 5 speed?

It looks fiarly easy to do the swap, where as re-building the automatic transmission looks difficult.

I'd imagine if I was to pay a shop to do the Swap it would be a lot more simply from labour costs. Do I need to geta different ECU? Or New axels?

The car is a 1990 Honda Civic CX hatch.

swap a 5 spd. its not hard, just takes alot of time. shops around my area charge 800-1000 just for labor. your automatic ecu will work, but you will always have a check engine light on. i'm not sure about the axels.
