open cam gears?
i have a d16z6 going into my rex. i am tring to decide if i want to buy a cam gear for it or not. if i buy one it will be only for cosmetic reasons. i just want to see how stupid ( if at all ) it looks with half of the timing cover missing, and the bottom half still there....
you can not see the bottom half when motor is in car.but if you wnat you could cut out the bottom half or do it the right way and remonve the pully. have fun doing that!!

This is from about 5 years ago and the pictures are small. You'll probably have to cut and paste since its geoshitties.
running open cam gears is not safe, mine came cut and I've bought an uncut one to replace it. Even if something large doesn't get in their and destroy your timing belt then the dirt and dust will make your timing belt wear prematurely. After 10000 miles mine was already showing wear on the timing belt running open cam gears.
I don't understand why? Unless you have cam gears to adjust maybe but stock gears.....no use...IMO that is. I have heard with a ZC it is sometimes hard for the hood to clear with the cover..Not sure about this though
i was going to do it and use adjustable aem or skunk2 gear. but now i have talked my self out of it, i just wish i could get the bitch wired...

for what its worth, i have a ZC with the cover on the cam gears and it doesn't hit the hood.

That's cool. Did you have to cut a piece of the support out or anything?
