Default Clutch cable question.

I installed a new clutch and don`t know how tight to set the cable. I know that your suppost to have 3-4mm of play at the end of the cable/fork. When i set it there it seems like the clutch engages to late, like the pedal only has about in inch more to go.

When i tighten the cable it`s even worse. So do i slack it off or tighten it up. I want the pedal to engage probably about and inch or so that my knee is almost in my face. Which way do i turn it!!!
