Best type of after market lighting
Ok i was wondering if anyone could help me out are hids really woth the money? And if so does anyone have a pair of them on a 98 and up gs-r? Do they look like the s2k's or are they still yellowish as some people claim. I was looking into philips 4300k
Finally got my HID's working today. They are definitely worth the money. No halogen bulbs can produce the quality of light that you get from HID. Depending on the angle your looking from, the Philips 4300k will look, blue, white, and almost have the "stock" color. But this doesn't mean that from some angles the HID's look stock. The fookin light output is too damn bright to ever be confused with OEM halogens...trust me.
Oh, one more thing...about the comparison with S2K lights...they don't look too much alike as far as color goes, but they are just as bright as the Philips kits. I think that has mostly to do with the way the headlight housing/projectors were designed. For some reason, the S2K's HID's have this "rainbowish" look to them that mine don't have.

dont go higher than 4300...the "ricer" factor in HID is coming into full effect...w/ some kits even emitting a pure "purple" light
and yes...since the aftermarket HIDs on our cars doesnt have a level adjustment? factor....blinding will occur.

If the HID's are aimed correctly, you will not blind oncoming traffic. The projectors have a dip in the drivers side lamp. Combine this with the minimal peripheral lighting in our projectors.
Some say that you blind others without autoleveling. Tell that to the X5's in my mirrors.

They are worth the money if you drive a lot at night. I got the 5000k myself. The highest I would recommend is the 6000k. Anything above that will start to turn blue and purple.
Another option would be the 9005 conversion. They are a big improvement over the 9006. But I have only seen it in pictures, not real life.

my buddy did the 9005 conversion with some silverstars on his 94 teg.... light output seemed dramatically better. not a bad option for 50 some bucks and 30 mins of cutting... otherwise you will not beat the output of a HID kit

HID's is the best choice if you want night time visibilty. I would get the Philips 4300k over the 6000k. 4300k gives you the most "brightness", and anything above 4300k, you'll start to lose the brightness. Also, you'll get harrassed by cops with 6000k bulbs, because they are very very purplish. The last thing you want is attract attention from cops.
For 4300k, the color of the light really depends on the design of the headlights themselves. Since your projectors are not designed for HID's, the headlights may emit the yellowish light from the 4300k HID bulbs.
For me, I've witnessed both yellowish look as well as the BMW bluish look from the same Philips 4300K kit on Integra headlights (from 2 of my friends' Type-R's who have HID's). I don't know what my friend did, but I'm very sure that those are Philips 4300k HID kits.

if you go the money then HID's are the way to go but dont go stupid bright, its just annoying. if you want a good cheap way that makes the lights considerably brighter then try the 9005 conversion, i did it and its bright enough for me
One other thing is it true that they blind oncoming traffic or is that bs?
those that have the kits working... how's your beam pattern and what kinda bulb are you using D2S or D2R? I put in my old D2R kit and am having a poblem with the beam pattern... the cut off is fine up top, but there's also a cut of on the sides... in other words all the lights are *right* between the lights... there are no lights to the side... I am thinking it's the shielding in the D2R bulbs.

D2R is meant for free-form reflector-type housings, D2S is meant for projector housings. You need D2S bulbs for sure.
Well guys thanks for all the input, but i think i have decided with the 4300k philips kit when i get them installed ill take pics so you guys can see what they look like especially the beam pattern because thats what i think counts the most.
