Aight Screw this!!! lol
Im sure most of you guys out there are getting sick of me and my long ongoing engine saga....but I think ive come to a conclusion....this could take a while to write so bear with me.
Im registered to go to UTI....(mechanic school) sept. 23....I have a 90 crx DX...its about halfway through the body work, then im lol..rolling it into maaco and getting the old 300 dollar shitty paint job.
I was more concerned about making it a beast under the hood.....well tonight Ive been calculating all the expenses Id be making with either a ZC or b16...I decided to screw both of them....My friend has a 90 crx SI that ive been parting out for like 2 months now...his engine only has 120,000 miles and ran like a beat before it was roled, engine still turns over though and runs great.
IM gonna swap his engine in, get my car painted WHITE....lower it, get some SI wheels, prob. a CF hood sorry im a sucker for them.....do a lil autocrossing this summer and just enjoy the car....oh yeah and ill be sure to get the basic bolt-ons but I already have exhaust and intake....
Well there it is...I can get his entire engine everything....for 200....so thats what im gonna do...
The reason im doin this is becuase after im at school I want to sell the rex..and buy a newer 99-00 SI....and just lightly mod it, but driving 5 hours every month from school(chicago to des moines) would reak havik on my DX so thats why I need somthing with sooommee power and very reliable.
Im sure no one cares....I just had to vent.

Im goin to the Glendale Hights campus, its a suberb of Chi-town which is about 5 hours from des Moines. I went there just this last weekend for kinda a tutorial..to see what its like im already enrolled and I just want to start there ASAP.....

omg.. its your decision, but i wouldnt waste my time and money on UTI. I turned down a 9grand scholarship offer from them, IMO i think UTI is complete crock, their instructors dont even have to be ASE certified master technicians. I work at the largest dealership in america and the UTI students there are not up to par with the toyota T-TEN students working there (i'm a T-TEN student) i dont mean to totally bash on UTI or anything, i'm not sure how it is in other parts of the US but here it gets really bad, the only point of that school is to take someones 16-20 grand, which could get you a better education and a bitchin new car

I worked for a cadillac dealership before I decided to go to the independent shop where i am now, and I worked with some guys from UTI, this dealership was paying people to move here to new orleans after attending UTI to work at the dealership. ONE person who is a close friend of mine out of about 8 from UTI actually made it. The rest quit and are either mopping floors or changing oil at speedy. I went to a Vo-Tech school here because I couldn't afford UTI. Thursday I will be taking my last ASE test, and if i pass I will be MASTER certified
its not about which school you went to, Its about your willingness to learn and get some experience, theres no better way to learn, but from your experience. oh and a footnote, that I hope doesn't offend anyone, I will never work for a dealership again as long as I live, the two that I worked for FUC**D me. Too much politics for my blood. I love working in the independent field, if its a **** job, send it down the road, you aren't obligated to work on anything. If you do decide to go to UTI, notice they tell you how great it is to be an auto tech these days, what they forget to tell you is how you will be getting paid. those of us who do this for a living know what i mean. especially if you work at a dealership, you have to rip off warranty to make a buck.
just my 0.02 for what its worth

Succeeding at UTI is up to you, if you dont want to go to class, and try then you wont to do good, its up to you, I wrestled for 4 years and I compare it to that....youll only do as well as you try. I dont plan on walking through UTI and being a millionare??? I plan on taking the training they offer which is great as it is, since they are very respected in the feild, and help you get a job. If you've actually went there and talked to soon graduates like I did youll know its not a rip off. I wasnt sure if it was the real deal but after visiting and talking to guys that were there tuning there cars on a sat. morning in there spare time they said it was totally worth it, and they havent even gradauted and have had up to 5 offers and this was just from the UTI training. AFter talking to a kid going through the mercedes grad. school he has been givin 3 offers, and they all start off at 15 or more......no less, BUT he applied himself.....and now hes reeking the benefits.....I get sick of hearing people saying....You wont make much as a mechanic, well when you work hard and go to a specific training school such as VW...which really need advanced techinicians and they offer you 15 starting off no matter where you work. Ill be 19, making 33,000 a year??? and this is bad??? plus UTI allows you to come back and take any class there after for free tht you feel you need more work in, and if you get fired from your current job or decided to leave they will help you find another one even if your 50......there employment office is open to anyone who grad. from UTI no matter what age.
Ive heard nothing but good things, .....and after being there and talking to professors and students its def. the right thing for ME.
PS: they have told me from day one since I had the rep come to my house, and I have visited the campus...how much we will make coming out....its all up to us.....since thats what im going to school and am paying 20,000 yeahh....they let you know from day one the money you can make........and if you get involved in a grad. program then pretty much they will pay back a good chunk of your UTI training, and pay for all the specific training you learned under them for that set number of weeks....im lookin into VW the most but im keeping my options open, since Ill be 5 hours away from home, and Ill have a part time job....alls im doin is going to school and work.....their will be no time to screw around and skip school.....

Not to sound like a smartass....but I dont believe UTI offers scholarships??? they are a vocational school, and you pay to go there...on your own terms....they dont even have dorms, a 50 year old guy can go there...how is he supposed to get a scholarship?
I understand that alot of people think im backing UTI up....which yes I am, but if you havent actually talked to guys that are going through it now or have been through it and actually TRIED to succeed...then you should try and listen to what im saying.
The reason that the guys at T-Ten are not doing as well is because they dont even offer Toyota at UTI besides the basics they are for sure not as in depth as they could be if they went to mercedes, bmw, and VW.....UTI offers more European cars and a ford Program plus the Nascar elective......
Ill be going where my training taught me, Obv. those guys in T-Ten only took the one year training becuase if they took specific grad. program training for BMW or CEDE's then they would be in a interum year with that company right now.....Im not gonna go to UTI for one year and come back and work on honda's cause thats what I like, im moving to wherever I have to, to make the best money for myself.
