i would say the best engine for a daily driver is stock.

or whatever gets the best mileage. 426 hemi is my 2nd choice.

JDM D15B(non-vtec)
Vtec is greate but non-vtec is cheaper

unless you have an si or hf....
then go with a JDM D16 mpfi

that way you have a drop-in replcment and more pwr and mpg to boot
my d15 dpfi will get 60.xxxmpg over long hauls if I stay at 55mph
50+mpg if I stay 60-65mpg(under 3k rpm basically)
at 90-100mph(hrs at a time I still get about 40mpg)

really, I mean it
I have checked and rechecked, this summer and fall
see this thread to see how much driving I have done to check the mpg during:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1808245

I got mine for $540 shipped to my door
6mo unlim milage wrtty
cant beat that warranty with a stick

clean! outside and laughs at the emmis tests we have here
3 days after 1st cranking it got 14ppm HC out of 222ppm limit other measurements in exhaust were negligible

after putting around 25-30k on it in 2yrs I can still go over it top to bottom with my hand a it comes away clean

tell him

I would say stock or upgraded d-series: from d15b to a6 or even y6 or y8. Concidering that honda puts them in there from the factory, you can't go wrong with what it came with!

Keep it stock and slap a supercharger on it, all the packaging of a four cylinder, all the zip of a V-6. If not, count me into the 426 Hemi as well.

K20A type-R The Hemi is a good choice, but too much weight, and too much work to install. For a daily driver you really can't beat a good old reliable K20A.

ls swaps are great for dd cars, the torque and gearing(ls trans) make it a great everyday car, and you still have a littlle power to play with too. Not to mention they are cheap.... mine was a total of $300.

it may not be the "best", but my favorite engine i have ever put into a crx was a b20. it was bone stock non vtec. i drove it for about 25k before i boosted it, then things got silly.

i would say a Dseries. actualy a ZC because it is a cheap motor, you can use mostly stock parts off the original Dseries, and if you go to a junk yard most people look past it because there looking for more HP swaps. its great on gas and its nice all mottor HP sleeper.

d16a6 or sohc zc

Good enough power, great MPG, cheap parts...basically everything you want in a DD engine. Replacement engines are cheap also.

Right now my CRX gets 35/42 mpg if I drive it nice, and 32/38 if I drive it hard. I can take it out on a 100 mile drive on the highway and its still cheap, way cheaper than it was to ride my CBR954rr.

D-series
