DAMN AXLES... Need Help
Went to replace my stock axles with Acura Stage-1 axles today.. and it just so happens that the axle will not come out at either end... We tryed popping it out from the inside( pushed, pulled, kicked.. ect..) And no good... It wouldnt slide out from the outside.. My dad even took a sledge hammer to it.. It just wont budge from either end.. We were only working on the left axle today.. and the axle is fucked and the car is now undrivable until we get the old axle out and replace it with a new one.. . Any suggestions on how to get the one axle out?? Im open to suggestions because we are at a loss... We will tackle it again on friday.. my dad is busy until then.. Back to the auto corolla
! Thanx for the imput guys

left side as in the driver side right? did u unbolt the 3 bolts on the block that holds the half shaft in place? the axle connects to the half shaft and the half shaft connects to the tranny. to get those bolts out..you have to get underneath the car and look or feel for them. it should be about in the center of the axle and the half shaft. let me know!!
Thank you.. that is very helpful.. my friend is bringing his helms manuel over tomorrow and we will look for those 3 bolts.. thanks a lot.. i'll let ya know how it turns out.. it would make cents.. we are just morons
you don't have to remove the half shaft to remove the axles. did you remove the crown nut from the hub and then try to punch the hub out/in toward the tranny? it's easiest to remove the lower crown nut on the hub (spindle?) and make it so you can pull the hub/spindle up and out of the lower control arm... then turn it so there is enough room to take out the axles. use a pry bar or large flat-blade screw driver to unlatch the axles from the tranny and half shaft. just punch the pry bar up in there and wiggle it till they pop apart.

PS- Sorry I don't have any pictures. Might sound confusing but you can do it.

aka castle nut, remove that in order to separate the LCA from the balljoint. What I did was remove the nut and then gently and carefully use the scissor jack to push up on the brake rotor, which lifted the ball joint stud out of the LCA.
Oh yeah, remove the lower shock fork bolt. I remove the shock fork completely just to get it out of the way. Like was stated, you do not have to unbolt the halfshaft from the block to get the axle out.

i'm sorry i know this doesn't help answer his questions on the axles, but i couldn't help but laught at this statement. me and my friends always find ourselves cussing at our cars/motors when we're working on them. i think we need to get a swear jar like homer did.
p.s. the swearing rarely works..get a helms!

Im the friend that was helping him and we tried everything. Bashing the axle with a 5lbs sledgehammer on the hub side, using two 2 foot screwdrivers to pry the half-shaft end off... none of it worked.... Im plum out of ideas...
You didn't actually bang on the tip of the axle, did you? When I did that to get mine out, I ended up mushrooming the axle end so I had to file it down before I could get the "big 'ol nut" back on.
edit: I'm dumb.

the helms is much more complete and detailed. the honda/acura service manual is even better than the helms. that's what i use. it's in a 3 ring binder about 2 or 3 inches thick.

i have a haynes repair manual. what is the difference between haynes and helms manuals?? i can see there is a hell of a difference in price.
he he.
No, seriously...I have the Chilton manual. It's pretty much useless. Some things in it are helpful, but generally a waste of money. I will be FINALLY buying the Helms next month.

Haynes is not a waste of money for around $10. I have done many things on my car and did TONS on my old car w/ just a Haynes. If you don't plan on doing any SERIOUS work like rebuilding an engine or tranny, Haynes is definitely worth the money.
If it's only $10, I'll retract my statement. I spent around $25 on my Chilton...not worth it IMO. I guess it does a decent job though.
I borrowed a Chilton's from my local library and I thought it sucked. Incomplete explanations, and incorrect stuff. They said to adjust the headlights on a teg (with projectors) it said the up/down adjustment was on the top, and left/right was on the side.
Anyone who has adjusted their headlights knows its the other way around. I want to go on EBay and buy a factory service manual.
