h22a timing trouble
alright, so im new here, so first, hello...hope you guys can be of some help
i put a summary at the bottom, but this has more detail as to why i dont know **** about h series.
ok, so we went to put on new adjustable cam gears, and didnt realize what a mess it would be for no more power.
we ended up taking off both cams, and had one hell of a time putting the timing belt back on.
i set the bottom end to tdc, using the screwdriver in the plug hole while turning the crank technique.
then i put both of the cams to tdc, and tried to keep them there while i wrestled the timing belt on, we didnt want to go thru the hastle of pulling off the crank pully and all.
well i think we may have skipped a tooth or something, but i dont know....tho this is the only thing that we did before it started acting up really bad
it was acting up before, but im pretty sure that that was a vacuum leak, he put an aem cai on and it just left some sort of black box hanging there, which i think is the mass air flow sensor...i know, not good, but im a k series guy and dont even know what this is.
well now the car runs really low rpms at idle, and on a return to idle, it wants to stall baddd.
also, just a few min ago, it started to buck at me around 4k rpms, and after letting it buck around 3 or 4 times, it threw a cel, and i dont have a reader.
any help? could it be bad, like timing, or maybe just a vaccum leak or something stupid like that...
please help me, sorry for the long post...
:::summary:::
-installed adjustable cam gears
-had to take apart head to put them in
-dont really know how to set timing, even with fsm here
-now it wants to die returning to idle
-bucks at me and throws cel after a few times.
HELP!!!

You didn't bother taking apart the pulley and setting timing properly, and you're asking why it's not running properly??
Take off the pulley, align marks on both pulley and cam gears to TDC and slip the belt on. Timing is set by the ECU, so as long as you have the marking correct you're set. Sounds like you have ur a tooth off and is retarding timing. And a heads up, removing the crank pulley is a bitch if you dont have the proper tools.

I agree with ^, you more than likely did not have the timming set correctly when you put the belt on. Take off the crank pully and re-check it. Putting a screw driver down the cylinder is not an accurate way of determining TDC.
