ive heard good things about the reflash. it gives good power all throughout the powerband and raises the rev limit. if you really want a good tune though go for k-pro

Hondata doesnt do Kpro on Automatic ECU's, but they do a re-flash for the autos.

I've got the reflash but i kept the rev limiter at 8100 it runs real nice and has a more torquey feel but i wish i would have spent the extra 400 and got the K-pro. I-Vtec wont kick in when the car is cold you have to run it for a while. Overall I am happy with the reflash

I believe it wont engage when its cold either with or without Kpro.

The reflash is pretty good. Here is a bone stock k20a2.

Vtec does not properly engage until the motor is up to operating temp.

something? it has everything to do with oiL pressure...hence the separate oiL pressure switch that monitors the iV-TEC system

8000 is as high as you want to rev on a bone-stock K. After 8000, you will run into valve-train related problems.

very untrue. k20a2 (as long as ur not one of the first 20,000 created) and k20z's have the same valve springs and retainers and the type r model, which redlines at 8600 RPM. Hondata finds no problem revving these motors to 8600 safely. I wouldn't do it every time you shift, but it is definitely safe in moderation.

It depends on what you want out of the reflash. If you have a heavy foot and will be tempted to rev it out all the time, I wouldn't suggest it. If you are planning on other engine and valvetrain mods then I would go for it. 8100 with the reflash works out plenty well for me right now.

That's funny... because I had a detailed discussion about this with Doug when I was at Hondata last year and he told me specifically that after about 8000rpms that you can start to experience valve-float and possibly bent valves. Doug mentioned that they have gone higher like you have mentioned, but they have ran into problems as he told me a year ago. But again, if you aren't making power past 8000rpms then why rev it any higher?

I checked into further detail on the Hondata website and here is some further info:

"Rev limits and Valve springs

Based on information from TODA Japan, the Type-S and Type-R have the same exhaust valve springs. However the intake side uses F20C (S2000) intake springs for the outer spring and a Type-R for the inner spring. TODA also mentioned that Honda is now using single springs of a higher class material for the newer Type-R's.

The interpretation here is that the stock valves are good. We have had a test vehicle (K20A2 in a Civic Si) running with an 8900 Rev limit for 2 months now. In this car you change gear when the Rev counter points to 20 mph!

Any increase in RPM limit though is at your own risk. If you suffer engine damage that is related to excessive revs Honda/Acura will not cover your warranty. If this of a concern, upgrade your valve train or use a program with a stock rev limit.
"

I'm going to contact Doug and talk to him a little more about this.

yeah I'll have to agree, i already have a problem with jumping all over that 8100rpm, giving me 8600rpm's would just turn into a disaster.

Your 15-second cars?

What's wrong with taking the K20 to 8600 RPM? If Hondata raises the rev limit, why ask differently?

I highly doubt 500 RPM is going to make a significant difference.
