ok some people know the story some dont. I bought a 97 ITR and the very end of 97/early 98. I had the car three months. BAM gone from my school. So later on at night i get a phone call, they found my R by the George Washington Bridge, NYC. i get the car back store it in the garage and one night i wake up and found my garage door on the front lawn. The car had no ECU in it and factory alarm and didn hear anything. Car was gone. Today i get a phone call from sussex county sherriffs Dept in NJ and asked me if i ever had a car stolen. they ran the VIN and it cane back registered to me!!! WTF?? it was found at the bottom of a lake. ******* **** suckers!!! even though the insurance paid me im gonna go and take some pics tomorrow and see whatever is left. The officer told me it was in there that long cause its not deteriorarated (SP) much. ******* Thieves....
That is kinda crazy.....sounds like someone held on to it for a while and just dumped it recently. How did they find it at the bottom of a lake?

i hope that this new part of your ownership experience is just interesting and not saddening. it sounds dayum interesting.
-k-b0t, who would love a little intrigue like that 4 yrs down the line...unless it brought any undealt-with emotions to the surface... (:

Please do not take this the wrong way...but I find your story kind of funny. I thought it was funny that they found your car 4 years later and even bothered to tell you. But all in all..F thieves.

yeah i figured someone would think something like that. but how where they gonna know the year?? plus the plates were still left on it. even though they were reported stolen. when they find a car, how ever long it takes, the registration is still in your name. BTW they didnt find it like 3 hours ago and say oh i know whos car this is??? they found it before the weekend

I say take a trailer with you with a couple of tires just in case and tow her home it's your car even though the insurance paid for it. GO GET IT! Oh and don't forget the pictures. Gut it out and put it back together (Warning it could end up being one of those puzzles you could never quite put together, but it would be fun!)
P.S. Sorry for your loss I hope seeing her again doesn't cause any flashbacks.

Seriously, i'd like to know more as to how they actually came across it at the bottom of a lake.

Dang man, that is crazy!!! Thieves really suck.. Keep us updated on what is still on the car when you go look at it. (i.e. interior, motor, etc)..
wow! some story. be sure to check the mileage on the odo. that way you can tell if it has been dumped recently or not. good luck. please post some pics if you can.
damn man its like something out of a sci-fi flick. In fact I saw something like this before, but the thief was actually in the driver seat when they pulled it back up...
Anyhow, good luck!
