Hey guys,

my dad just called me up saying his 99 V6 accord had the batt., door ajar, brake, and some other lights come up in the gauge cluster on his way to work. The car ran without any apparent issues.

He's also been complaining of a small noise like a whirring noise before.

I'm thinking its a bad alternator...can anyone here relate?

sounds like you hit jackpot, the tranny will not upshift if the alternator's dying also, those v6 alternator don't last too long

 

hey, thanks for the reply. Yea, i was right. by dad called me tonight saying the car was dyin' out. Had him pull over and I took the batt. out of my other car and swapped it over.

fun times.

 

Whoa! I didnt know the tranny wouldnt upshift if the alternator was bad.

Mine did the same thing a while back and I drove on it all summer long. Needless to say it did go out on me eventually but I swapped it out for a TL Denso unit!

it will scare you sh_tless since you know there's alot of tranny problem with the v6, i guess part of the electrical stuff with the tranny that will stop working if the power is low. it will not shift to 3rd or 2nd, it happen to my friend's 98 and another friend's 00 accord v6.

both turns out to be a failing alternator, denso&gt;gm crap

Story of my life. Sometimes it is like I am driving my old chevy again. These 6'th gen accords are crap.

 

yes your alt is toast.


Edit: just use a ratchet on the idle pully tensioner

anyone have tips to get the drive belt on?

I pulled the tension pulley all the way counter-clockwise and it doesn't seem like the last loop of the belt will go over the alternator pulley..what a PITA..
