Roll Cage in Street Car unsafe without helmet?
What are your guys opinion on about roll cages in street cars? I want to put a cage in my car as I take it to the track, but I'm not sure how safe it will be to drive around on the street without race seats and a helmet? My man concern is if I get in a accident, that I could strike my head on the A pillar bars, or halo bar. Is high density foam good enough to protect me from the rollcage if I were to get in a accident?

Honestly its the one of the most unsafest things you can do besides not wearing a safety belt........
I'm doing this to my street car with a 10pnt cage. I know of the consequences but i just dont want to get kicked out of the track when i hit 10's

I thought about this before as well. As of now my civic is my only car and i wasnt going to limit myself to mid 11's at the track so i put a cage in it. It probably isnt the greatest idea for daily driving but you gotta do what you gotta do.
believe it or not the density foam will be the difference between a bump on your head and a knock out at low speeds(like a football helmet idea, slowing the impact just enough). I would definately wrap the cage if you decide to put it in your DD car. The only reason I thought about putting a cage in my crx is because a crx becomes a box of metal during an accident(soccer moms...

What are the main things you need to be safe on the street with a full cage?
Heres my list so far:
1. harnesses
2. roll cage padding
3. seats with good side bolsters, or race seats
My main concern is I have s2000 seats in my car, and am not sure if I can make them work decent with harnesses.

How is a with a full 10pt cage in a car less safe then a new jeep wrangler? You have the same risks as that. I would think that high density foam would go a long way in a fullcage car.
The only thing I can think of is the diameter of the roll bars in a jeep are larger then a standard cage, so there would be more padded tube area to distribute the impact over. This would lessen the peak force on your head in an accident.

It appears to me that FIA rollbar padding is the best padding you can get. It absorbs 3 times the energy of SFI padding:

I have the BSCI stuff from Safe Drives.
It's nice, but EXTREMELY hard. I guess it's what it takes to save you in a hard impact. I'm telling you though, this stuff is almost as hard as wood and is very bulky.

I am guessing its so hard because it is designed to protect you from impacting your helmet against the padding. Maybe the SFI 45.1 padding would be a better idea.

...everthing on that list is sufficaint enough. Is changing the S2000 seats out of the question? because you would be better off with a set of Recaro speed seats or some thing of that nature that you could use seat harness correctly, while still having mobility of the seat.
.. jus something to think about.

A Jeeps bars are quite a ways away from your head, in a Civic they are very close.

I plan on putting a cage in my civic this winter even though its driven on the street almost every day. Getting kicked out of the track is getting old and when used in conjunction with harnesses I dont see it being very easy for my head to hit the bars.
I drive with a cage in my car. I would say you need good harnesses so you don't move around in the cockpit, pad the rollbar, and really that about all you can do. If your harnesses are install correctly and snug, you really shouldn't come in contact with the cage. At least in my situation I wouldn't. The cage isn't really that close to my head, unless I was bouncing around inside the cockpit....but thats if I was an idiot and didn't wear my harnesses.
All in all, a caged street car is a PITA, but you have to cage it if the rules say. Or just don't ever run at a track...

Nope. You are fine with a 6pt. until you go 9.99 or 135, which ever come first. I have gone 10.9 at 131 and at all the NHRA tracks I have been to they have said I am legal to go 10.00 or 134.99, which ever comes first, then its on to alot more money, and weight, and licensing, and all that good stuff..haha
