Default Q: 94 EX, V-TEC, Can I reuse the EGR chamber gasket?

The big rectangular one after I clean out the EGR ports - it is a pricey gasket and I am tired of throwing $ at this car when there are other sound alternatives. I have mucho chemical gasket makers, sealers, and holders. I have not done the job yet, just gathering info, parts, supplies. Btw, in case someone is inclined to warn me/lecture me about this job, this M/Y does not have the plugs that are drilled out and replaced.

thanks,

I've always reused them, it is metal. Just be careful with it when you are taking it apart.

Oh thanks, I didn't expect that kind of reply. I'm certain it will be very helpful. Had I not read your reply, I would have tried to keep the entire rail intact and pull the injectors out of the combustion chamber. So, I am glad you posted the procedure and pics - its even better than having a manual.

Btw, one local Honda Shop Foreman suggested that I replace the small O-ring at the end of the injector that goes into the fuel rail. He said is it a source of leaks and to just replace it automatically if the mileage on the vehicle is high. He said the O-rings harden up after many miles. I'm at 160K and the former owner did not maintain this vehicle, so I will probably do that unless someone here gives a me a better reason not to.

Btw, the only thing I would do different, based on info I have, is to keep to silicon products away from any source of intake. I think it is a good idea to grease the injectors on install; but silicone is known for fouling O2 sensors, and it has the ability to migrate very easily. The Helms manual says to use a little motor oil. I'll probably do that.

Thank you,

Hey I'm just wondering what your syptoms were. I'm having major fuel consumption issue (16 mpg) and I'm really trying to figure out what is going on. My pcv is also buzzing. The vacuum at the intake is 22 Hg which is good.

Thanks,
Tim

Replace ALL the O-rings! I cleaned mine not too long ago and I removed 1 fuel injector and then when I put it back in, it wouldn't seal. It ended up leaking a ton of gas and was a pain in the ***, not to mention, hella dangerous. Just switch them out b/c it will save you headaches in the end.

Quazbell, no symptoms at all. I've just been fixin this Accord part time off and on for awhile now as I can get to it. I decided to do this because it seemed worth the effort. Just seemed to be one of those ovelooked maintenance items.

Btw, about your high fuel consumption, I have found that as long as you are not leaking fuel, it is usually just one of the basics, or a combination of them: Check your DTC's first. Then check the following in a methodical method one at a time.

Fouled Cap or Rotor
Dirty Air Filter
Incorrect Tire Pressure - it drops as weather gets colder and causes rolling resistance.
Plugs Fouled, Worn or Gapped too wide.
Dirty Fuel System - Use a Cleaner like Techron, BG44K or CRC Guaranteed to pass w/Polyetheramine)
High Carbon - Run with Overdrive off to clean off carbon - Do again for ten minutes
Incorrect Thermostat - need two: one for winter and one for summer
Clogged PCV hoses
Vacuum leaks
Bad Sensor (but usually a code is present), but sometimes not, like a lazy O2 Sensor.
Timing off
Clogged Cat Converter
Valves need adjustment
Injectors leaking
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Coil output
Slipping belts
Dragging brakes
Incorrect front end alignment
