ok today i finally got enough motivation to save my poor hatch from rotting and i decided to try to fix it since i have more knowledge of how to..or so i thought. ok its throwing a code 4 which is for the crankshaft position sensor (located in the distributor) i got a new reman distributor a while back but my battery was dead so i gave up for a while. got a new battery today and put everything back as it should be. the sensor is wired directly into the ecu since thats what the wiring diagram calls for. started the car up the first time and it ran like pure **** and kept cutting off. i gave it some gas and it sputtered and backfired. i unhooked the negative terminal and switched the two wires (c1 and c2). the motor started up very smooth, then i revved it up, the cel came on and it would studder really bad at 3k and when i let out of the gas it cut off. before attempting to start the car after switching the wires i turned the key over to see if the code had cleared out of the ecu which it had. but after i reved up the code came right back. on top of all of that, i had 3/4 of a tank of gas before all of this started, in starting my car up 4 times and revving for a few seconds, its at half a tank now....ftw....
im ordering a new harness with a warranty on it..if that doesnt fix it.....i dunno.

the wires that are added for the DPFI to MPFI swap at ECU pins C1 and C2 are for the Cylinder Sensor, not the Crank Sensor - the code for the Cylinder Sensor is 9 - the code 4 you have is for the Crank Sensor and has nothing to do with the wires at C1 and C2 - the wires for the Crank sensor are the orange and white that you had to move from C1 to B10 and C2 to B12 - maybe you have them switched

its only throwing a 4...ive switched b10 and b12 and nothing happened....even still, if the ones in c1 and c2 were right, and i switched them...it should have thrown an additional code or something......any explanation on the fuel consumption problem????
fuel consumption is probably due to one of the old injector wires touching ground (the wires you removed from A3/A7)
This will also flood your cylinders causing it not to run... or at least, run well.

i checked all of the injectors to see if they were leaking but they werent, and there was not a really strong gas smell coming from anywhere..all of the fuel lines in the engine bay were all secure as well.

ummmm.... i didn't suggest that they were leaking.. i suggested that they were grouding out and therefore staying open on 1 or 2 cylinders. Very common problem.
Now check it out.
(actually reading and listening to the help people try to give you is important, otherwise, why ask?)

i should have asked then...im not electronically inclined. i know what grounding out means...but i dont know how the injectors could ground out. wouldnt there have to be a bare wire somewhere? to the best of my knowledge the old injector clips are still on the harness, but just dangling (still wrapped up though and with the plugs attached) and the wires to the ecu that were removed (if any) were cut off with no wire left hanging out, and if there is some hanging out, it would only be touching carpet. if there is anything else that could make it ground out please let me know.
