Default Experiences with carbureted 88 and 89 Accords? Reliability in mind.

I am looking into one of these, I believe it's carbureted and has a starter problem of some kind, other than that, it runs well.

How reliable can these be? The one I have access to is an 89 LX

I have a 85 Accord (runs, but radiator is dead), and it runs smooth but its pretty slow (feels like 60-70HP) w/ no torque at all. Yes, there are starter problems. =P

no torque at all? that's a proper honda

not sure if you notice or not, there's a EFI version of the 89accord, get that instead

As long as you either

A) Know a shop that can tune the 3bbl carb

B) Are willing to very patiently learn to do it yourself

The carb is great.

Still, having worked with one of those damn things before I would really recomend EFI. Personally I would start with a carb car then do a custom EFI like Megasquirt. The Honda EFI back then was not that hot either....

Ok I bought it.
It's got 246k miles, engine idles great and is smooth. Just needs a good tune up. Car was sitting at a junk yard for about 3 years!

Power steering is gone (no fluid)
Needs ignition lock (broken + no keys)
Needs a couple lights

Got it for $600 and hopefully with $1000 I can get it running decently. Already ordered the ignition lock and the lights for $100. Gotta love hondas
