Exhaust rattle? Heatshield? Sparkplugs? Gasket? WTF? IDK?!?!
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, I've been reading here for quite some time now, but I'd never bothered to register. So basically I drive a bone stock 97 hatch, d16y7 w00t!, and it makes this rattle noise when I accelerate (the higher the RPMs, the louder the noise
) My friend and I have concluded that something is going wrong in/around/between the 2nd (maybe 1st) cylinder/exhaust/spark plug area. Could it be heatshield rattle? Something wrong with the spark plugs? Gaskets? I'm noob, help me out
**EDIT** I also forgot to mention that this rattling only happens sometimes, well if you call 90% of the time, sometimes. lol

A heat shield would rattle at high rpms without the car moving, so rev it up while sitting and have a friend take a look. Your spark plugs dont have a way to move. Does it sound like its coming from inside the engine, or outside.... or can't you tel?
it comes from the engine bay, my friend and I popped the hood and revved it a few times into higher RPMs, it's a rattling noise coming from the area where the 2nd (maybe 1st) cylinder meets the exhaust headers, somewhere around there. I did some research and it could be the heatshield, not sure though.
Like for example, I'm coasting around in 2nd gear at 25mph, completely off the gas, and if I put my foot on the gas and accelerate, this rattling noise gets louder and louder, it's f***ing annoying lol

It's not too hard, Just unplug the O2 sensor, unbolt the heat shield, and slide it off. Plug the O2 back in, and rev it up.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yea I'll probably do that tomorrow and see if it helps any

I just figured out what was wrong lol, my stock exhaust headers have a crack in them, all rusted and stuff. I've only had the car for like 2 weeks, and the dealer I bought it from gives free 30-day warranties on any car they sell. So I'm going to call them up and demand a new exhaust header.
Thanks for your help everyone.
