Helmet Open face or close.
I read the NASA CCR rules on helmets and for 2007 require a sa2000 helmet.
What's your opinion open face or close?
What Brand helmet do you use?
Where do you race the most?
Please post them up.

Sorry, you can list both.
I just noticed when I did a search helmets, they were mostly talked about in the motorcycle forums. Just wondering what most road racers used.

closed face for sure. once you get onto a racetrack you will find things flying into the window and hitting you once in a while. Even with a window net

Yup. Open face looks a bit odd too. The only people I ever see wearing them are autocrossers.

If for sanctioned road racing, I recommend a full face helmet. Not only for the additional protection but most sanctioning bodies are moving toward requiring a head and neck restraint. I can't think of any manufacturer that recommends a H&N restraint for an open face helmet.

What's your opinion on GForce helmets?</TD></TR></TABLE>
They're terrible ... but that's just my opinion. There was a very recent thread about this very topic. Look it up for much more info. In short tho, I'll tell you the same thing I told that person. Try on a helmet before you buy it. Do not assume that all helmets fit and feel the same and that you'll be comfortable in just any old one that's the right size. There is a lot of individual preference that goes into making the decision of which one best suits you, so don't take other people's word for it.

I'm not finding that thread, but I love the G-Force helmet that I recently bought. I used it for the first time last weekend. It's nicely priced, is SA2005, fits me well, doesn't fog up on me, and I can still breathe with the visor down. It sure beats the helmet that it replaced, so I'm happy. There's always going to be something better and more expensive, but I have no complaints or regrets.

WTF? I have a G Force forced air helmet and it fits me great and I like it very much especially for the price. And I spend quite a bit of time wearing it considering all the the track events I do.

Like he said, in his opinion. Everyone has a different size and shape head. I've tried on different helmets of the same size, from the same maker, and they all felt different. That's why I second the "try before you buy" advice. Try on different brands as well as different models from the same brands. You'll eventually find one you like.
Some advice I've read. Helmets must fit snug but not tight, a loose helmet is never a good thing! Try them on at the store. Find one you like and wear it around the store for about 10 minutes. If you don't have a headache buy it and take it home. Put it on a watch TV for about an hour, if you still have no headache you're golden, if you develop a headache then it might be too tight in some areas and you will need to trade for a different helmet.
PS, I vote closed face!

G-Force helmets are as good or better than other helmets at the same price or even higher. It's true that fit is probably the most important thing next to the Snell rating. Different helmets fit different heads differently (???). Most dealers will allow you to exchange an ill fitting helmet. Better yet. Order two in different sizes and return the one that doesn't fit as well.

You could try contacting the manufacturer directly and they will give you a list of the local retailers in your area so you can test fit.
Cheers!
Cheers!
I vote Closed face Helmet for racing. Open face helmets I would say its ok if its on an Auto-x course. I have a Black Simpson Voyager that I bought brand new up at VIR when I was with the Ferrari club last year for a Private event. I usually do track days up at VIR, Roebling, Kershaw, Summit Point, and Road Atlanta.
