Figured it cannot hurt to ask. Wife was driving in this very heavy rain we're having in the northeast on the way for a nursing test. When she arrives at the destination, the remote locks refuse to work, and the dome light will not shut off. All else is normal. I'm sure its just water got splashed on something, but is there a reset to this or has anyone experienced this?
sounds almost as if theres somethign wrong with the trigger/door handle on the drivers door. because like we all know, you cannot lock the drivers door without a) pulling the door handle or b) having the door closed. and also with the door open(or if the car thinks its open) the dome light would also stay on.
this may sound like a stupid question, but was the door shut completly? maybe the seatbelt was caught in the door? is the car still doing it now or has it stopped?

If it was me, I'd pull off the door panel and see if you see evidence of water having gotten on something, like mineral deposits where the water dried up, etc.

I'm not at home to check this out. Will have to wait for a few hours. Its possible that water got into the door switch and is causing a ground. She is able to shut off the dome light by using the manual switch on the light itself. She can lock the doors bymanually pressing the buttons down. Of course on the drivers door she has to do the yank and press to get by the safety feature. When she came out of her test the remote would not unlock the car but a manual twist of the key unlocked it and she was able to drive normally. I'll give it a checkout when I get home in a few hours.
Wierd, but water could definately ground the circuit. Even when it dries out, the mineral deposits can still ground it out. What's weird is, it can't just be the sensor that says if the door is open. You can use the locks with an open door...

What was happening was this. She was driving along and water was heavy on the road. She went through a deeper spot that really was flooding the road. No problem, nothing happened and she reached her destination 20 minutes later. As she was pulling in though the light on the dash came on that said the driver side rear door was open. It was not. When she exited the car it would not lock with the remote and the interior light would stay on. She switched the light off manually and hand locked the doors. When she came out the remote unlocks the car and she drives home without a problem. But on arriving at home the remote would not lock the doors.
When I got hom I discovered the same, no change after sitting most of the day. I opened that rear door and pressed the switch madly for about half a minute. I closed the door and the car locked with the remote and the alarm armed. An hour later just before dinner the car alarm goes off. The car is still locked and all doors closed. We unlock the car with the remote which disarms the alarm and it goes quiet. We try to lock the car with the remote and it will not lock. I open that rear door again and work the switch again and close the door and the remote locks the door.
So water must have been forced up into that curved door sill area somehow near that switch, and is grounding that door switch which makes the computer think that door is open when it is not. Hopefully, in a few days it will dry out and this will be resolved. If not, its under warranty, and a dealer visit will be the fix.
