Default Just got my first bike, 89 fzr600.

Hey guys,
i just got my first bike a fzr600 that i got for a nice price. It needs some work though. I'm really excited because i finally have a bike So far it needs a petcock and a starter relay.

more to come as the bike is in pieces in my garage already. What do you guys think of this as a starter bike? Do you think i'll have a good time with something so old?

The FZR's are great bikes. You will have lots of fun with this bike. Plus, spares are plentiful, as the bike was produced for an eon.

I see you have gear, so you are off to a good start.

MSF? Insurance?

As with all new-to-the-owner bikes, I suggest changing the oil, sprockets, chain, tires, and brake pads.

FZRs are fast enough.

I could not tell the tires were new. Is all that dirt and oil from your driveway?

Quoted...because that's gross.

Brake fluid is pretty bad to get on the outside of your bike. Check to make sure it didn't get onto the brake pads (toss 'em if so) or rotors (clean 'em). And clean off the tire, too. But I'm sure you already knew that.

The break fluid is from the car, so there is no break fluid on the rotors or pads. I cant wait to drive this thing... its gonna be fun. What should i expect from this bike in terms of fun?

Don't try to pull stupid **** if you've never ridden before. It's more fun to drive a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

A buddy of mine has a 92 with a headlight conversion. He has a sprocket kit (-1),intake, Yosh exhaust, timing kit, stg. 3 Jet Kit and a few odds and ends.

His suprised the hell out of me when I rode it. For being 14yrs old, it moved.

His is now udergoing repair due to some fairing damages caused by being a little to over-zealous on the rear brake.

A few good sites for parts and whatnot are:
