Hi all, I'm new here, and I have a rather big (or so I think) dilemma on my hands right now. My friend and I went to replace the fuel filter on a '94 Civic Del Sol SI yesterday, and while trying to put the bolt from the fuel line (the one that comes from the gas tank) into the fuel filter, we crossthreaded it and some of the threads came out. Now the bolt won't screw in. It will screw in part of the way, and then pop back out. As far as I can tell, the only way to replace this bolt is to get a new fuel line. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

You are talking about the banjo fitting on top of the filter?
If so dealer or junkyard. You can just replace the bolt and the filter. Are the threads on the filter messed up? Might just need to get another filter?

It's kind of hard to guess what is messed up by your description.

 

get soem vice grips and go to town, or get a chizle to it and get it to turn then u can get it out after u break it loose, then be prepare tobuy a new bolt

 

It's not that I can't get the bolt out. I've got it out, I can't get it to go back in. It's the bolt that surrounds the fuel line coming from the gas tank. I've got a plan. I've bought a foot long section of steel pipe, and a compression fitting. I've also got a new bolt head, so I plan on just cutting out the old bolt, and splicing in new line with the new bolt. I'll let you know how it goes.

 

is the bolt cross threaded?

 

Yes, the bolt is cross-treaded. I also managed to shave some of the threads off the end of the bolt, so that is part of the problem.

Another think I think I'm going to try is to cut the nut off of an extra fuel filter, cut that nut in half, feed it over the bolt, and then use a wrench to try and re-cut the threads.

 

Got it all fixed guys. I just cut the flared end off the installed fuel line, then slid the stripped bolt off. Got a new bolt, slid it on the pipe, and flared the end again. So far, no leaks. Thanks POE for the suggestions that led me to this idea. Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier.
