Default 1988-1989 Civic Question

Is it true you can start these cars with out putting clutch in.

The 89's need the clutch to be put in.

I believe the 88's don't.

it probably doesn't have a clutch saftey switch

You can just easily by-pass the switch if it really bothers you. Just undo and connect the two wires...

'88 Civic/CRX do not have a clutch safety switch, and so they do not require the clutch pedal to be in for the starter to engage.

'89 and newer Civic/CRX have the switch.

I used to have a 90 civic si, that I totalled and transferred all the parts over to my 88std. Everything was swapped over, the car's entire wiring harness. I big days comes I go to start the car and it wouldn't start so I'm scratching my head for like a day trying to figure it out. I go back to my 90 civic and I look underneath the dash and I'm like what the hell is that behind the clutch pedal. It was the stupid clutch safety switch that was preventing the car from starting. So I put on my dash now for a push start button.

Lol i assumed he meant that he wanted to start up and drive away without pushin the clutch in
