i know i know another H22 or turbo post... but please help me out i have a 1990 honda accord 2dr 5 speed F22a4 motor and i was woundering whats better? turbo that motor which has 113,000 miles or buy an H22 off of Hmotorsonline.com? and do a motor swap, i know the turbo would be more simple then doing a complete swap but i just want some oppinons. plz thx
if you ask me, just doing the h22 is simple. if you really want the power. do both. work on it little by little if you can't do it all at once. but 113k isn't too bad for a 90. you need to do compression and leak down testing to even see if your motor can handle boost. even if it can and you do it right, it should cost you the same or more than the h22 swap. turboing means you have to have the extra cash for insurance measures because some things may go wrong. so turbo has it pros and cons. you gotta have a decent sized wallet to even think about turboing. skim out on the parts and you could find yourself getting a new motor all together. so if your going turbo what you got, do it right.

Calm down... What TheMuffinMan is trying to say is that it's a personal choice. You'll get 100 people that say turbo the F, and another 100 that say H22.
flight50 has already said everything that needs to be said. Be glad someone answered at all, considering how often this gets asked with almost the exact same situation.

i say H22 because u can have it bar'd and have it street legal = )
that and turbo is a waste on a 4th gen.
If you where going to boost then just get the h22 save up and boost that = )

Yep, these posts are a dime-a-dozen, it wasn't in any way against you and your car. Just stating that it's been beaten to death and everyone will give you a different answer or suggestion.

I think im just gunna go for an H22 swap i think it will be more reliable, so if i get the motor off of HMOTORSONLINE.COM, what else do i need to do this swap? and what are some of the basics to doing this swap?? thanks guys and uhh sorry muffinman for getin all bent.
actually maybe you could get an f22b vtec head and put that on your current block, hooking up the vtec might give you some noticeable power and you wont want the turbo.
or turbo that thing. I might be wrong but i'v heard that turbo does a lot more for a vtec engine than a non vtec
please anyone correct me if i am minsinformed

its not like you can go to a junkyard and slap one under the hood

what do you mean by "necessitate"?
well if i can understand what you are saying, a turbo kit is gonna cost money and a motor swap is going to cost money. hes not talking about keeping the f22 with a aftermarket intake vs turbo, hes asking about a swap vs turbo f22.

per $ an engine swap would prob be safer though. It is a better idea to build a turbo becuase extra parts may be needed or something might go wrong. Granted even the H series should get sleeved before turbo but like you said he's talking N/A swap vs. turbo
Personally i would feel better with a h22 swap out of like an 2000 or newer prelude. But F engines can take a beating i respect

If you do anything then please, by god, don't do that. That is a flat out dumb decision. The F22 can handle more boost than the H, so if your gonna boost you should stick with the F. (I could give more reasons but this topic has been beat to death)

Wow. I can't believe these people. Just because the H22 has higher compression doesn't mean it's stupid to boost it. Christ, I could even the compression playing field with a set of rods and pistons.
Not to mention, the H22 already has more HP then any F22 motor. Adding a turbo into the mix reaps greater gains.

when you get a used engine you never know what you're getting, the reason you're getting an h22 is cuz some idiot's prelude ended up in the junkyard, and it was probably becuase he was racing it and crashed. You never know how well cared for the engine was, although if you have had your F series for most of its miles it might be better to boost it since you know what kinda shape the engine is in
^^ That isn't necessarily true. Most cars (including Preludes) that end up in the junkyard are not there because of racing situations, nor are most Preludes "raced". Yes, it's true that you don't know what kind of condition the motor is truly in, but most people don't realize the damage they've done to their own motors either.
cb7tuner.com will help you with your decision, but do a search first. Believe me any questions you have a most likely already answered. I remember having the same questions last year and I kept posting the same question and people would tell me to search, but instead of searching I wanted immediate answers. Now that I've learned a little a look back at the questions and realized that searching would have provided me with all the answers plus a whole lot more.
