Default Took my teg to the smog shop and.... *results inside and pics* UNBELIEVABLE!

FAILED!!!!! FOR 2 reasons. Visual and Functional

Okay so here's the story:

--VISUAL PART

My car was due for smog, so I took it in. The emissmions test results where fine (HC level 11 and 15). But I FAILED the VISUAL!!! This guy was a total *****, he popped my hood and saw my AEM CAI, and he CALLED some authority to actually CHECK THE CARB EO # to see if it was legal. So he was on the phone talking about the AEM CAI, I was thinking WTF this has NEVER happened before. So he said the AEM CAI is fine, then he went on to do some more "visual" checks. He saw my PCV tube was a OEM HEATER hose and said it's not legal and I'll have to get it changed! WTF!!!?!!! I smogged my car TWICE prior to this ( I had my car for 4 years already) and both times I had my AEM CAI on and NEVER NEVER NEVER had a problem with my CAI and the tube. Here is the pic of the "illegal tube":

And I went to autozone to get it replaced with this:

Hope it's okay (although it's kind of short).

---FUNCTIONAL RESULTS:

SO NOW here are the questions for ACURA AND SMOG GURUS!!

1) My CHECK ENGINE light was one and it was for a EVAP solenoid leak or something.

I got it erased with the reader and took it to the smog shop and my "FUNCTIONAL CHECK" results failed because not all the sensors can be read (the readyness test). I think it's because I just erased it and will need to drive it like 50 miles? (CAN SOMEONE VERIFY WITH THE MILEAGE?) I took it to smog even though my EVAP has a leak is because a acura tech. told me that I can pass it if i keep my gas level a certain level, I think like 1/4-3/4?? I'm not sure, I will need help on how to pass the smog shop with this EVAP check engine light crap. I mean my emissions passed and my visual should be okay now after i purchased a new PCV tube. As of now my check engine light is off. NEED HELP and inputs greatly appreciated!!

i'd recommend going to a different smog shop. The 2 places I usually go havent really cared or checked my carb oe numbers (comptech intake, header, exhaust, high flow cat). I even had my cam gears exposed.... As for your questions, I cant help you out there..sorry

You may only need 10 miles. But, to play it safe go at least 50 miles. I have seen it take some cars 100 miles to hit all of the triggers. You can pass and have 1 not trigger yet though.

You are right, he said I can pass and by having 2 not ready. I have 3 not ready, catalyst, evap emission and the o2 sensor. I drove 50 miles already, just need the evap emission to be not ready while o2 sensor ready.

" my "FUNCTIONAL CHECK" results failed because not all the sensors can be read (the readyness test). I think it's because I just erased it and will need to drive it like 50 miles?"

Answer:

True, you cannot just reset your computer so that you could show up at the smog test station without a CEL. I dont know how many miles it takes for the OBD I system to be ready, but I would just reset it today & take the retest after 3 days of commuting..

The million dollar question is will i be able to pass with all the sensors "ready"? My emission test is excellent. Scored 11 on the HC level. visual should be good too.

http://mdkeena.dnsalias.com/readiness.pdf

read thru that. It's for 2003 Acura, but the readiness setting should still apply. Readiness codes suck. Half of my day is spent setting readiness on VW's. Talk about a PITA

good luck

mike

"Make sure the gasoline is 60-90 percent level".... HMPHH!! no wonder that a acura tech told me to get the gas at a certain level. It is so the evap leak will not be detected. That fool knows his stuff. Now I just need to know if this applies to Acura and who knows the exact gas amount to not activate this evap "readyness" during smog.

I failed my emissions in Colorado last week because of HC

Emissions allowed - 1.2
Emissions scored - 1.6

That sucks about your emissions. That guy was a total *******, hopefully you don't get the same guy next time.

I love Texas emissions. Only HC and CO checked and they don't really care either way

Hey Bro i am actually a smog tech in the state of california and i can tell u that sometimes is just stupid like u guys say and yeah i know it is i've gone to the referee 3 times already for stupid things i know but the thing is that we get checked they send cars with illegal stuff and we have to catch them and if not we get a fine or even u get ur license revoqued so thats what we do u have ur job i have mine and we just do what we r suppossed to in this case that hose is illegal in california becase thats heater hose and u have to get the hose that comes stock with the car for this u have to go to dealer and get it i know it sounds stupid but thats how it is and i know it sucks i currently have two integras and i know it sucks because i can't put lots of goodies in them and i want but i cant so like i tell my friends sometimes is better to spend a little time and more money but have everything legal like u have the aem sticker thats good and i know is just a tube and all do the same thing but is not our fault everytime we get a car like this we have to ckeck it and make sure is for the right car but i can tell u sometimes we r in a hurry too and we dont check all the stuff and we r not supposed to know everything on every car but if u catch something we have to report it so yeah hope this helped a little !

Also about the check engine ckeck the fuel cap and if possible replace it thats known for failing or ask them to test it if not just check the charcoal canister and follow the hoses make sure the hoses are in place and they r not cracked also drive the car a fully cycle monitors go on when u drive the car one time cruising on the freeway on continuous stops and cruising at 25 to 30 mph so turn it on let it warm up and drive it just dont go all crazy stopping and accelerating drive like a grandma to get it to do it is kind of boring when u r driving ur baby like that u know but trust me it works!

For the sensors to be ready, milage isn't really a factor. You need 3 cycles. Drive the car for 15minutes, then let it sit for an hour or so, another 15minutes, then stop give another break and then another 15minutes.
