If you have any medium to good mods on there then possibly a timing advance may NOT help, but in stock form a few degrees will may yield you a couple HP, but no more since you are in stock form.

sure if you detonate you can actually blow your engine, that's why it's best to get it on a dyno to see the gains if any that you are getting

It depends on the gas you're running, intake temp, etc.

Dont advance ur timing unless ur putting in stronger valvetrain in which case u can see some serious power gains

I have my timeing advanced on my 2000 ls and I noticed take off to be easier and it idled better. Really with the computers we have and their is so little advance on our distributors any way you could advance all the way and with premium fuel you will not ping. I say advance it FTW... Just make shure you have no pre-detonation.

True, I'm just stating what too much advance can do

ummm, that has nothing to do with valvetrain...and if you think it does please explain.

Im kinda questioning wtf the valvetrain has to do with timing advancement as well.....atleast ignition timing advancement. Also, pre-ignition is actually when parts of the combustion chamber become to hot and the gas actually lights previous to a spark being fired. Detonation is when you run too low of an octane or ignite the fuel too quickly and the fuel fully ignites long before TDC.

Timing (ignition timing) has no affect on valve train. Advance it a couple degrees and test drive, see if theres any knock at all, if so retard it a little. If you run premium you can advance it more. You will feel a difference when its advanced.

I have fully advanced my timing and it ran great in the low end but up high it causes it to struggle. I was getting considerable knock though when at lower speeds; this was with regular fuel. I have been driving my car a couple degrees from full advance for about a year and it runs great and everything looks and sounds good.
